This has quit on my wife's car. Hear the same click whether activated at dash, button at trunk, or key fob. But won't open. Opens easy with emergency release. The click leads me to believe that the electrical side is working, but.....?

Checked codes and getting none related to the trunk actuator or enter & go system.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Have you tried lubing the latch. It might be sticking. Also have you tried manually locking the latch with the trunk open so you can see what happens when you hit the electric release?

my minivan acts the same when the latch gets dirty. need to clean and lube the latch for it to work again. make sure the key operates the latch also. if that part of the mechanism gets gummed up, it won't work properly. will still "click" the solenoid, but won't trip the latch.

Thanks for the reply,s Stumpy & moparx. Lubing was the first step, but made no difference. Using a screw driver to trip the latch to closed with the trunk open, it moves freely.

There is no key mechanism on the trunk. Actuator is hidden by trunk lid liner so I can't see it without removing that. Opening options are dash button, trunk button, key fob, or emergency pull cable only. the latter pulls very easy releasing the latch. Trunk closed or open.

Darn new tech is great until it messes up. I really like the functional convenience of the keyless entry where you never have to pull the key fob out of your pocket to lock, unlock the doors, open the trunk, and start the car (push button).

it looks like you now have to remove the lid liner and see just how the mechanism works. on my minivan hatch, the latch works like yours does, it trips and releases good, but when the solenoid clicks, nothing happens. i then have to remove the whole back cover and clean and lube the linkage system. this includes a bellcrank link from the solenoid to the latch. it was such a pain to do, i took a wizz wheel and made a giant access hole to get to it. the back cover plastic covers the hole, so no big deal. i realize now, you don't have a key like i do, but i'll bet there is something going on under the lid liner. i unhooked my solenoid and watched it work before i tackled the linkage. please let us know what the problem ends up being, and what it took to fix.

Well took me long enough to replay to this, but ultimately I let the dealer fix it. Replaced the latch mechanism. Had the car in for the alternator recall, and had them trouble shoot it. Since I bought the lifetime warranty with this only new car I've ever bought, the part price was $75 (Dorman), and my deductible on the warranty is $100, it was worth the $25 to me to have them install it and be a Mopar part.

So with the warranty, it cost you $100 out of pocket for part and labor to install?

BDW, yes the deductible on the warranty is $100. This is true for all parts & labor.

Moparx, Dorman was the supplier of what I could find online to purchase the part myself. I assume, the one the dealer put on is a Mopar part. Receipt shows P/N 4589217AE.
