Why torque a oem almn head different than an aftermarket head? Is it because the better deck(thicker) seals w/o as much torque? 40ft/lbs seems light, especally on a race motor? What are you differing on OEM style vs aftermarket?

I'm not trying to be difficult, it comes naturally....

I'am referring to the after market like an Indy head that has a bolt rather than a stud in the lifter valley.A bolt clamps differently than a stud, you are friction loading as well as clamp loading and may pull the threads as well as distort the floor of the intake. There is a redundency as far as friction loading with a stud and the stud thread hole in an OEM style is a through hole whereas the Indy is a blind hole and it's termination is part of the intake floor.

I don't mean to hy jack, and this is the same topic.
What tool are you guys using for the valley stud twelve point nuts? I cannot find a 1/2" twelve point crows foot.

Mark

Snap-on p/n FRDHI81. I use 9/16" 12 point nuts.

Hmmm... mine are 12 point 1/2" inch. It is what comes in the ARP stud kit, 145-4003. I have not been able to find a 12 point crows foot in 1/2".
Thanks for the reply,
Mark

I think Snap on has different sizes. My studs origianlly had 9/16 hex nuts so I replaced them with 12 points. Mac tools also had them. There called spline wrenches I think. Also, my part number was wrong. It's FRDH181
