Any pics? Sounds cool! I've got a 71 R/T, FC7, N96, wing, 383, 4-speed, 3.91 axle package car... who knows if I'll ever get to work on it but I've wondered about louvers too. Mine isn't a vinyl top car so I don't think I'd do the louvers on it, but since yours has the top, I think I'd go for it if you like them

Just say no to louvers. FM3 + white bumble bee stripe is enough eye candy.

Being a FM3, Shaker car, wings... It's about at it's peak visual desirablity originally. That makes it very unique of course. But putting on non original louvers sort of kills the fact that all those other things were original.

You walk up to that car and 1st question is, "is that originally FM3?" you say, "yes". Next question will be, "is that originally a louver car?" you say, "no".

Or...You walk up to that car and 1st question is, "is that originally FM3?" you say, "yes". Next question will be, "is that originally a shaker car?" you say, "yes".

A little off topic, do all louver cars come mandatory with dual mirrors?

It's your car, but personally I'd go with the louvers. Who gives a hoot what other people walking up to it in a car show are thinking? Most likely they are thinking "That is one badazz car!" and have car envy. lol. The louvers give it a more rounded look and are period correct. They add to the wow factor, IMHO.

They were supposed to, but I have seen 3 AARs (in person) that had louvers & the single mirror. It was not supposed to happen......

The 3 cars are all within 10 VIN numbers of each other.

My two cents........ I happen to love the chrome luggage racks! I have a '70 shaker Challenger that didn't come with one. I found another trunk lid and installed one anyway. I think it offsets the shaker as I have a stripe delete car (code"?") It's FE8 green with black vinyl top(was originally green top). The louvers are waaay cool , I just thought it would be way over doing it to also put the louvers on ?

If you don't give a hoot about what other people think, why bother adding to the wow factor??

IMHO, any nicely done pink, shaker, wings Challenger is "one badazz car". Even if it started out a green on green /6 car.

But if that car was orginally with pink, shaker, and wings that would definitly add to it's wow factor.

I agree with you totally, I was thinking the "wow factor" for myself, if I was in his shoes. I guess I'm selfish that way. Certain cars just look "right" with certain options to me, Like a Demon in Lime Light green and back hood scoops, etc. I would add the louvers if it was my car, just because I liked them, to make it look the way I wanted it to. It would just be so cool to have a car like that and to be able to sit back and repeat slowly to yourself over and over "I actually OWN this car!" lol. Did you see the new Challenger painted TA style in the general forums yet?

Assuming the car is a legit, factory FM3 ,Shaker car , I would NOT ad the louvers, simply because it
is a modification to an otherwise rare and correct car (I assume) and would detract from the
value , in my opinion. If you drill those holes, somebody is going to have to go back latter on and "undrill" them , if you ever have to sell the car .
Other than that, you simply don't need them . The car would look just as impressive without them .
Just my opinion.

No to the louvers. The car is already incredible, the louvers will be like way to much make-up on a pretty girl

I don't really care about detracting from the value. What I do think the louvers will do is detract from how special your car really is.

How many 383 cars got Shakers?

And it's an FM3 car too?

Those two items are HEAVY! Adding louvers is like adding a lazy eye to Pam Anderson (or take your pick). It's your car and there's nothing wrong with adding something that you like, but your car sounds so special.

Have you added anything else to the car? Rallyes? Your answer may help nudge you one way or another.

I assume this is the car that was owned by Daniel Banker. Very rare car, and I would not put louvers on it.

What is the code on the broadcast sheet for louvers??
My old Barracuda had them, and I still have the broadcast sheet.

I wouldn't add the louvers for two reasons. One, the car is very rare, has good options and should be left stock. Two, the car is pretty "busy" as it is, adding more stuff will be like adding too much make-up to a pretty girl as was stated already.

I have louvers on my car and love them. Having said that, I think your car is too special, and if it were me, I'd refrain. On the plus side though, all you or someone else would have to do later if the desire to remove them prevailed, would be to fill the holes and replace the vinyl top (no paint).

If you want louvers, don't be handcuffed by your own car. Add the louvers.

Thank you for all the input. Everyone has good points on both sides. I'm just chewing on the idea and figured I'd get everyone's ideas. I refrained from putting them on the T/A because it's a non-vinyl car, but being this one is a vinyl top car, it just may end up getting them. It's only going to take me a year to decide and go back and forth with the idea, It always does.

I may have a solution?

My T/A is a vinyl top car, so you could buy the louvers & give them to me. That way both of your cars stay "as is", but you still get to buy the louvers.

It was worth a shot.
