Guys I have an opportunity[?] to trade my restored T/A B5 NM 4spd 3.91 52K mile car with a 70 chall hemi orange NOM 440-6 auto with Dana60 4.10 60K mile car.My car is nicer as the 440 car has been parked for 20yrs but is verry correct other than the NOM69# block.Just needs minor servicing- nothing drastic. It would be a verry clean orig driver
The owner states that it is one of 50[?] auto 6pak cars fitted with a dana60 [date code correct]Is this true? Only hemi or 4spds ya? He also states a 'dress up' option? eg some eng chrome? I have never heard of these, but stranger things have been rumoured about options back in the day
How would these cars compare collector and $$ wise? Both are desirable cars and the guy approached me with a swap.

Does anyone have a build number of 70 challenger 440-6 autos please
Looking for a 'Moparts' opinion as there isnt many of either cars in OZ and Im 50/50 on the deal- but its got me thinking!.

cheers Dave

If I was offered the choice I would probably take your car due mostly because the 440-6 doesn't have the original motor and yours does.
....and a 4 speed trans am car is VERY COOL

I'd keep the T/A

Funny question....about 5 hours ago at a car show in Toronto I was debating the difference in value between two cars at the show...a 70 AAR Cuda and a 70 440+6 Cuda

Based solely on desirability I would say the Trans Am cars are worth more. the 70 V code cars have pretty high production numbers over all and I think most people asked would prefer the T/A and AAR for handling and drivability. (that comes from the owner of a 440+6 car)

In your case it's a no brainer....Your car, original motor and 4spd is worth more....

Yeh, I agree with the above. I would take a T/A over 440/6 car. Given that the T/A is a 4 speed car makes it all the more tastey.

Absolutely Correct! Having the original drive train is important and somewhat rare for cars that were manufactured with performance/racing in mind.

Keep the original T/A, but I'm bias.

Keep the T/A, pull and store the original drivetrain, build your own 440/6, 4spd, dana drivetrain, drop it in, drive the wheels off it Then if you decide to sell, you won't have lost any value, plus you will have had the fun you would have gained from the swap. Just my

As the others have said, keep your car. You know what you got. If you trade, the other guy will end up better on the deal.

FWIW, there were 793 RT 440-6 hardtops made with the auto trans. Not extremely rare. Not sure where he got the breakdown by rear end, but even so, that wouldn't hold much weight with me.

I thought they made more T/As than V-codes?

If you add up ALL the 70 V code Challengers I believe it's about 2000 compared to 2400 T/A's so you are correct.

I was thinking the same thing.Although I do agree with a complete numbers matching car over a non-numbers matching car.Depends if you want 290 HP or 390 HP

All things being equal, what are the market values of the two cars? And, then, would non-# for the V-code affect it so much? I'm just surprised as I would have expected the V-code to be more expected all things being equal and am surprised it's less without the original engine than a T/A at this point.

Here is a real life example for you. I had an all original AAR 'Cuda that was FJ6 and all numbers matching with two build sheets. Somehow I had a brain fart and sold it for a different car. Well, about a year later I had the worst case of seller remorse you could imagine. I wanted it back or I had to find an adequate replacement. I now have my signature car as a result of my seller remorse (440-6 'Cuda) but I have to say, if the two were side to side, I would take my AAR over the 6 barrel car. Just my . Also, I would NEVER trade a numbers matching desirable car for a NON matching numbers desirable car - more of my Rob

The #s and four speed are what would make my mind up as well. It would be a toss up from 440 six pack to T/A but the matching #s makes it pretty easy to decide and I always prefer a four speed. The Six Pack will have more acceleration but the T/A is pretty close in acceleration then you factor in the better handling, more graphics and fun of driving a four speed this one is easy.
I don't let values factor in to my enjoyment of cars.

Now, If the car he had was an AAR compared to a 440-6 Cuda, auto, dana, NO shaker car... Would that be closer?

Wondering if both cars being Cuda would shift the pricing up for both equally.

Wow, never would I have expected it to be so slanted towards the T/A. Learn something new every day!
