Is there a difference in hood springs between a air grabber and a standard 71 GTX hood ??

I'm not positive, but I don't believe so. The only lighter springs I've seen are aftermarket ones for aftermarket hinge-type 69 air grabber hoods that are fiberglass (lighter vs. steel hood) which would be lift-off for '69

EDIT --> See below.... I believe Mark

Yes the A/G hood takes heavier springs. Put the A/G stuff on the standard hood and it won't stay open.
Plymouth A/G hood springs are about the same as Charger standard hood springs. Chargers have heavier hood than Plymouths.

I have actually used Charger hood springs on a GTX Air grabber hood. They worked fine.

Master, again and still

I agree...Broke my rule of never throwing anything out by throwing my worn out original 71 Super Bee Air grabber hood hinges and springs out when I got a great used pair off a standard hood. Now my hood won't stay open with the lumpy cammed engine running

Time to carry around a broom stick handle.

Reminds me of the 1969 Step-side Chevy pickup I drove for awhile back in the day (hand-me-down from Dad). The hood springs were messed up, so I used the broomstick. At a service station once, I exited the pickup with the broomstick in hand and walked over to open the hood (no inside release). The service station attendant asked me what the stick was for, and for some strange reason I decided to mess with him and said "I'm going to hit you over the head with it."

Anyway, when I opened and propped the hood, he realized I was not serious. Later, a sibling who got fuel at the same station, told me the attendant was a friend of hers and at first he believed my aggressive statement.

As a follow-up, one day years later Dad asked me to check the oil level on the same pickup. I walked over there and with both hands prepared to lift the heavy hood like I had been accustomed to do, I hit the release. When I went to lift the hood, it went flying up into the air. My old man had replaced the hood springs and never told me. He got a big laugh when the new springs surprised the hell out of me.

I know the standard hood Charger springs are smaller than the charger AG springs as I have both here sitting on my garage floor. I also learned that there are some small differences in the hinges from a 71 to 72.
