I picked up a set of hyd roller lifters at a good price. They are made by CAT. Anyone have and experience with these?

I'm also kinda rethinking the hyd roller cam idea. There doesn't seem to be many off the shelf cams available for BB Mopar's.

What do you think - roller or flat tappet in a 440? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I can't help with the Cat rollers. Comp lists a few hyd. rollers for BB's. I know they will grind whatever you want for a few bucks more. With all the oil issues I say go roller. I did a street solid roller in my 470" and love it!

ask everyone with new trucks I think they bin hydraulic rollers for years!!!

i think one of the problems is that people think they can get solid roller performance from a hydraulic roller. a hydraulic tappet, roller or flat, can only be accelerated so fast. the faster the hydraulic tappet is accelerated the quicker it fails. i've looked at advertised profiles from comp cams, engle and crane and have never seen anything that impressive for the extra $1000. i can buy a lot of ZDDP for a $1000. the hydraulic roller retro-fit stuff is just another pit to throw money in. if you want roller performance, then buy a solid roller.

The posts I read mentioned the need to rebuild the roller rather than the hydraulic part of the lifter.
The reason I was considering a hydraulic roller was because of all the problems reported concerning flattened lobes on flat tappet cams. I am not looking forward to a engine full of cam & lifter particles.

I have a Crane hyd roller in my 440..have about 4000 miles on it..has required no maintenence...several 1/4 mile passes ..Now i think I am going to have Tim at bullit cams regrind it as its kinda mild now..regrind is about 1/2the price of a new one.Or maybe i will try to sell it for 1/2 the price and just buy a new cam..but hyd roller for a driver and sometimes racer is the way to go...
