I have a Moser Dana 60 housing that was set up by Moser with a 410 gear the original owner had a 373 installed at one time then went back to the 410 gear. I want to put a 354 in this housing can anyone think why a Dana OEM 354 gear set would not work in a Moser housing. no matter what I try I cannot get the carrier to turn when I installed with the pinion. I have sshimmeded the pinion all the way up as far as .070 down to zero. nothing
.. carrier will not spin. I have taken ring gear side shims completely out, nothing carrier will not spin. Carrier spins fine without pinion pinion spins fine without carrier... please help and there are no shims underneath the race

As a casual observer to your problem, is it possible you have the wrong pinion for the ring gear? Have you tried meshing the gears outside the housing?

I wish you luck here, best that I can suggest.

I had the same issue when I put mine together, I bought a locker but there are two part numbers, but mines wouldn't turn either with the 4.10 I wanted in there so I had to up to 4.56. Not sure if it's the same thing, have you messed with the shims? Maybe need to remove some.

Pinion turning without the carrier? If all the shims are out, behind bearing-race, on the other side of ring gear, you have the wrong carrier. S60 is the same as reg 60 other than the adjusters-- is that scwewed all the way back? Not sure you need shims on a S60 now that I think if it. It adjusts like an 8-3/4.
3.54- 4.10 use same carrier, 4.56 and up use the thicker one.

There is one brand of 4.10 that use a different carrier than normal, I think it was richmond. I would ask Cass aka doc diff if I were you. Start with a .052-.060 shim, and .008 backlash and it should turn. The only other thing I have had is a guy brought a traclock and it needed a spacer on each side, dana sells them, to get adjustment. Carrier is narrower than a powerlock.

2.225" = 4.10 and down
2.420" = 4.56 and up

I see gear sets with "thick" ring gears available for most ratios 4.56 and above, made for use on the 4.10 carrier.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Richmond 4.10 Dana 60 gears use a 5-series (more offset) carrier.

All other brands of 3.54-4.10 gears use a standard 3-series carrier.

In other words, if the 4.10 gears you removed are Richmond brand, you need a new carrier.
