I did search and wound up more confused than before.

I have a 66 furyII 4 door with a 318 and auto trans. Is this a poly engine?

It has the stock heads and single barrel intake- The only upgrade is a 2 barrel Holley 500 CFM carb.

I have to replace the timing chain and intake gaskets so I thought maybe I should put in a better cam while I am there. I want a smooth idle because it will be the family car. I also dont want to spend more than $150.00

Which cam should I look for and will it fit the poly engine (if I have one).

Any help would be appreciated.

I would think it would have the Poly 318, but 1966 was the changover year so it may be possable it has the LA318? I can tell you the spline count on the 727 transmission should be different on a '66 than the later transmissions.

66 Ive never seen a LA motor.I did have a 67 Firy that had a poly in it from the factory even though it wasnt supposed to.Easy to tell a poly.Just look at the valve covers. They only have a couple of bolts instead of the later pattern. If you need a cam most are custom grinds as the LA cam wont work.Timing set is the same and the intakes and intake gaskets are different also.Rocky

I am sure it is a poly 318, There are a couple of guys on here which know the mods that can be done, performance parts are very scarce.

In my opinion I would find a running car or truck with a 360 and do an entire swap. (you would need to change oil pan and pick-up off the truck engine)

you can put an intake, cam, and carb for a resonable amount, clean and paint the engine and do a swap on a weekend.
