This car sat for a long time and I got rid of bad gas.
Carb needed accel pump diaphragm.
Checked power valve and replaced with 5.5.
Can hear PB booster push air when inside of car when hit brakes.
I have plugged out vacuum gage at back of carb to eliminate.

Decent built 340 with aggressive hydraulic cam and auto, Feels like 10” body on converter.
r I fixed the blown manifold.
Pulls about 7 vacuum idling. Have had it up to 10.
Idle mixtures screws respond lazy.
Not loading up and distributor reworked, advances etc.
Timing at 15 and 36 total.

Thinking of swapping out another known good carb.

What are you thinking?
Bad metering block gasket?
Blown PV again?

No leaks at manifold or base plate.

Needs 4 corner idle.

Bump the distributor to 18° and see what it does for vacuum.

Try 18* or more initial and see how it likes it.

I changed to 750dp 4 corner. I put in 2.5 new power valves to make sure they help off.
Getting about 12 lb vacuum.
I have tried N-D-N with and without vacuum advance and same thing is happening.

it likes more timing and runs smooth at idle.....and idles in gear now but big RPM drop.
Then when back in Neutral it stayed at low idle kind of coughing and choppy. a little rev and smooth again....like stuck distributor weights

I will watch timing in morning dutring N-D-N.
I suspect weights are sticking and will have to change distributors.

I cleaned this one down to the weights, but the were rusty and the plate was dry.
I lubed the bushings and greased the weights.
Weights open on a drill and closed fine too.
There is 1 light and 1 medium spring.

I changed the reluctor plate to a new unit too today.

Did it run right before it was parked for a long time?
Sounds like a case of big cam and to tight converter to me.

Seemed to Idle fine when first resuscitated.
Car had an MSD system on it with MSD distributor witha rat nest of hacked wires and squirrel chews and a Performer intake.

It had a leaking accelerator pump, blown power valve and leaking accelerator pump. I serviced carb and I drove it around.

Idled fine. had no ass.

changed to rehabbed wire harness, chrome box, electronic distributor.
Starts and runs great.

Took out on shakedown, Loves the double pumper and pulls hard and revs great . Pinged a bit with more timing.

after warm and stopping to do burnouts I still have the big idle drop.
i can keep it running with a feathering.

Gotta hit a baseball tournament for the boy so I will another distributor and check running voltages later. Car is running and charging with electronic regulator but I did not look at idle voltage.\

Swapped in a MP Electronic Distributor from my 69 340 GTS Convert!
Timing at 20.

This thing idled smoothe immediately with little RPM drop.

Bar the Door Harry....here she comes!
Got it out on the street and felt real strong.
Went and gassed up at Sunoco w 93.

Got to drop the hammer a couple time and she is pulling hard!
Pretty impressed by a 340 in a B Body.
Burnouts are pit worthy!

Engine showed some inconsistencies in leak down so I'm looking forward to getting heat and run time in it and hoping this fossil starts to seal up with use.

Was definitely a custom build since inside was glyptol and heads seem gasket matched.

so far a good day and on to kick-down and other adjustments!!

You sound pumped!

Sounds like mechanical advance was bleeding in and when the car was put in gear, rpm drops and the leaky mechanical adv was pulled = stalls out.


Timing is usually the issue with excessive drop when put in gear.

Cool you got it fixed up.
