So I have been told by many of the older Mopar guys that they used to regularly turn their 440 to 7200 rpm. Is this a trait of mopar purple cams or the 440 stroke? The reason I ask if its a trait of the purple shaft is my brothers first 440 with a .474 mopar cam made good power down low but really wanted to rev 6800 7000 productively even. My first 340 I used the .484 lift cam and it too wanted to turn 6900 RPMs. Not apples to apples experience but then, I built my stroker sm block eddie heads and hughes cam. He built another 440 with eddie heads and a hughes cam. Neither will productivly pull past 6100 rpm? Seems cam related. They are quite productive from idle to 5800 6000 but really fall off after. Springs are theirs and installed to spec.
AND TO THE POINT. Im building a 440 that needs to rev productively to 6500 and yet make 350+ pound foot of torque as close to 2500 rpm as possible. The rods are stock LYs with arp bolts, pistons are aries. Heads will likely be stock mopars ported with templates from mopar. Intake is Weiand dual plane,750 Q jet, headers mopar electonic ignition, high 9 compression. The truck is a 4 speed ,4.56 geared,37 inch everyday tires, 33 inch for pulling, short bed 4x4 dodge.
WHY for country stock truck pulling class and daily driver pre runner truck. Yes I know those are two extremely different disciplines. SO let me know what you know please. Its been a while since Ive pulled 3 years in fact and many have stepped up as I intend also.

well, I have a 383 with a 440 stroke, and at .060 over, it's basically a .010 under 440
mine started to fall off at 6100 rpm not quite the 6500 you wanted, but I also made over 500 ft lbs at 3000 rpm. the test didn't start until 3,000 so I don't know what it was making at 2500, but I'd imagine it's got to be over the 350 you want.
I would think with a slightly different cam profile, and some head work, you could get your 350 tq @ 2500 and pull strong to 6500 rpm.
my basic build: 383 stroked to 440 OOTB eddy heads flat top pistons/valve reliefs, zero deck 10.5:1 compression Comp XE275HL hydro flat tappet cam RPM intake holley 750HP

it has to do with the combos... on stock strokes and stock or mildy done factory heads, the MP's duration will carry the power band well. When you change that to a non stock (longer) stroke, and add some better heads, the cam has to be a bit larger to support them. On a 4" arm small block, runnning mildly ported RPMS, a cam with 250°@.050 is a mild cam. That cam may not pull past 5800. And the carbs are another deal. Mild 4" small blocks will eat up cfm. I use 870 Holleys on mine, and they get 17mpg with them. A medium sized carb on a 496 or 505" is an HP950. So add camshaft, and carb, and intake volume, and they will all run up there.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

If I was you I would build a 400 block and use the 440 crank in it so the LY rod would be long enough to allow you to have a custom, very light, piston made that will help the motor rpm and the LY rods live. The cam should be made for your application by a reputable cam company the has customers that pull in classes like yours, PM if I can help you on that.

Your not going to turn a 440 engine with stock heads 7200+ rpm with a MP cam for sure..LOL. That engine with a large solid cam say a MP 590 old school style will be all done by 6000-6200 maybe earlier. With that low a compression, cam shaft will be crucial, to big, and it wont have enough torque to turn the tires over on blacktop. Not good for what your wanting to do. In this application stock rods should be ok for 450-500 range prep'd and good bolts. Spend the money on the heads, cam, and converter.
