The subject is a 1971 Fury I (PK41U) w/E86 440 engine. The previous owner had the motor sprayed with genuine MP spray can Street Hemi Orange. But, while doing some exhaust work I noticed some turquoise paint on a head bolt. I would like to know what is the correct paint color for my engine?

Thanks in advance to any and all who reply.

I'm going to say turquoise as I don't remember any Fury engines that were orange. All the police cars I saw or worked on had turquoise and later years had the 72-up blue engine color. But I'm not saying they were all that way,I'm sure someone will say they have a orange one.

I think only the 440/375 hp engines in Furys were orange...at least through '71....after that, I don't know. The 440hp engine in a Fury is somewhat rare, but they do exist. I have a '69 Fury survivor with an orange 440hp.
What is the 5th character in your VIN? It should be either a "T" or a "U".

It is supposed to be orange. Here is a pic of a very original 71 Polara 440 HP AC ex-Washington State Patrol car. It's hard to see (don't want to post the huge unedited one) but it is factory orange for the motor.

Does the fender tag have E85 (T code in VIN and not the HP engine) or E86 (U Code in VIN and is the HP)

T-Code's should be blue, U-Code's should be orange. Do you have a fender tag pic of that FHP Polara? Would be curious to know the build date.

Here is the tag off the 71 Polara, notice the error, says "U3D" but it is a 71 car.

Just curious...what is the SPD and is that 232XXX in the VIN?
