What would be a good place to set the cold startup pressure on a race motor? Big block,.003 rods and mains. Also has valve cover spray bars.
Will this also affect the hot oil pressure?
Thanks Mike

I would start at two full turns of preload from none and go from there scope

when you buy one the instruction sheet that comes with it will tell you your starting point altho I went by the instructions and it was 120# at start-up, with mine the adjust seemed to affect the upper and lower pressure a like amount.

"I went by the instructions and it was 120# at start-up,"
Dartman 120 seems pretty high?
Will setting it that high adversely affect anything?
Thanks Mike

didn't mention that I shut it off and adjusted it out till I got 75# and I don't think it was turned in origionally as much as Cab said to set it but I am sure he has done it a time or three

Mines about 80 on start up, 70 thru the traps hot w/5w30. I had to cut 1 1/2 coils off the spring to get the pressure down.

Are you using a milodon pump or a melling std. or high volume pump with the adjustable pressure regulator.

those almost always run way too high. I have had to cut almost every one to get a reasonable and useable pressure.

Melling high volume pump. Not the high pressure pump.

Has the Milodon adjustable regulator that replaces the one that came with the pump. I have 85 startup right now. Is this too high?
Will it stress the oil/dist. shaft or cause hp loss?
Thanks mIke

"Spit out a cam gallery plug

Has this happened to you? At what pressure?
Thanks for the reply's Mike

I've never used those on any pump blush
I have helped another racer who had one though, not sure if it was stock or if he had change the bypass spring already confused
