Hey Guys,
The fuel pump on my car is letting the fuel drain back out of the carb. It doesn't want to start after a couple of days sitting. Any recommendations on who makes a good mechanical pump these days for a stock 440? I believe the one I have on it now is a Carter M4862 and about 12 years old. Really hasn't been used enough to fail.
Thanks! Randy Get another 4862,that's s all I've ran in 35 yrs. Uh-huh... (And maybe a little fuel conditioner in with the wonderful alcohol 'enhanced' fuel...

The carb is a factory Carter AVS. I originally thought that today's cheap gas was just evaporating, but I recently put 110 racing fuel in it and had the same problem. Carb dry after sitting a few days. Here's what works for me: 'Thick' gasket under an Edelbrock AFB... Aluminum M-1 intake... HP mechanical pump... Proper supply;return;venting;gas cap... Zero percolation issues... Zero starting issues... 20+ years of road time, and a LOT of high heat conditions... (ALWAYS a mixture of 110 and the pump sh!t...

I actually like to let it crank a bit to build oil PSI. I wont set the choke until after I get a few revolutions out of the engine.....but thats just me! LOL

Squirt bottle (small with a cap) filled with gas, remove air cleaner, pour in the front vent, replace air cleaner and start. Simple huh? Try that with a shaker set up....lol!
