Hi I'm looking to replace my old starter (heat soak issue) with a JY mini starter.

Car is a 69 Plymouth B-Body, 318/904 and headers.

Do you always have to remove or loosen the drivers side header to get the starter out and in?

Thanks
Plaz

To remove the large stocker I'd say yes.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

On my 73 Duster all I had to do was separate driver side tie rod and pitarm connection then swing center link out of the way.

Didn't have to loosen header to remove fullsize starter to replace with mini-starter.

Job takes about 1.5 hrs if linkage separates easily which it should with the right tools.

1970 FE5 Duster 360/904/3.91's SOLD 1973 TB3 SpaceDuster 340/4spd/4.10's SOLD Moparless for now but when the opportunity is right I'll have another one.

Yep, if you got headers you need to remove it. BTW take a look at my broken mini starter thread before you install yours.

Wow, finaly got this done, it took me almost 5 hours.

Did not lift car so that made it alot harder.

Took original beast of a starter partially apart so I could get it out easier.

Unbolted the whole steering colum and pulled it into the car as much as possible. This gave enough clearance between manual steering box and steering shaft to get starter in and out...

Man does it ever start nice and quick now...can't believe I waited this long...
