I have the Wix 51515 oil filter on my BB motor and I'm have some fitment issues running some charge piping around it and could really benefit from a shorter oil filter. I like the KP S15 billet reuseable oil filter and could gain close to 2 inches in space. But funds are a little tight right now else I just pull the trigger on one. Does Wix make a short oil filter that will work on a Big Block? If anyone has a part number for a shorter oil filter even if it's another brand I'd appreciate it.

The 51515 filter is 5.19 inches tall. http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/PartDetails.aspx?Part=193964
the 51085 filter is 3.83 inches tall.
http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/PartDetails.aspx?Part=160797
Same mounting (3/4-16), same diameter
both have a 7-9 gpm flow rate.

FYI the 51515R is 5.17 inches tall.

51085 3.790" tall. 51068 4.338" tall Not sure on the microns or capacities. I'm assuming these are Wix #'s (my note taking is poor!) the 51515 you have is 5.180" tall

Thanks guys yes the 51515 is alitttle over 5 inches I'll see if the parts store has a 51085.
I'm cramped for space and every inch I can gain goes a long away.

The 57035 is 2.305 in height 3/4-16 .. watch the
flow ratings on some of the short filters
EDIT
If you click on this page you can look up the
specs on any Wix filter

make sure that's not the white one with the fine micron for initial startup and break in.

Ok Sammy I have 2 of the 51515 at the house now and will run one of them on break in,as my charge piping won't be hooked up then.

the 51515, 51085, 51521 are all 21 microns @ 7-9 gpm.
the 57035 is 32 microns at 7-9 GPM.
the 51515R is 61 microns at 28 GPM.

How about using a remote mounted oil filter to get it out of your way altogether work I like and use the big remote mounted NASCAR race filters, Wix # 51222R with the built in high pressure bypass or the Wix #57400R with full flow with no internal bypass scope

I think 85068 is the shorty for use with a low mount power steering. The 515 hits the belts on those applications.

I want my fair share

breakin should be the white one only, with very fine micron. not sure of the part # offhand. I just took my breakin filter off, it caught most of the assembly lube moly.
after the 51515 should be put on.

NO Turbo, that's full length but filters only 61 microns. Breakin filter 51515 filters like 19 microns but is also full length.

Plenty of small oil filters that fit that space with the same gasket and thread pitch. I believe my 340 runs one from an Escort. Less capacity, but no biggie as you'll never let it get that dirty.

In Fram numbers
The PH8A is the long filter. PH43 is the short filter. Cross reference these numbers. A lot of factory big blocks (most) used the short filter to clear belts, etc
