You'll probably get a better answer posting this question on the restoration forum twocents scope

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

BUILT is a tricky question, Chrysler maintained records of the cars' "SCHEDULED" production date & their "SHIPPED" dates

I seem to have misplaced my Darrell Davis '65 Plymouth book - but here's part of the answer .....

the '65 HEMI Plymouths were:
SCHEDULED - mid-November '64 thru mid-January '65
BUILT - ??
SHIPPED - ??

the '65 HEMI Dodges were:
SCHEDULED - late November '64 thru mid-June '65
BUILT - ??
SHIPPED - mid-December '64 thru mid-July '65

I think they were spring cars. My 65 Dodge fender tag says 3-29 but the IBM card says it shipped on 4-20. Hopefully somebody will chime in with a more authoritative answer. I don't think they were built in "groups" like the 68 cars because 65's were actually were built on the assembly line.

Typically the drag cars were scheduled pre-Winternationals, but late rule changes and/or approval could mess that up as well as having them done & tested in time.
For example, a '64 Hemi RO sedan was tested at Lions in late winter with AFBs while the Maxies were current, and then revised with Holleys. If memory serves, some '65s were ready for Pomona, and some delayed until the 2nd NHRA event @ Beeline. The '65 program was kind of broad: the sedans, the 4 A/FX HT cars, and the 10/15-inch AWB cars. Things happened on a monthly and even weekly basis.
Seems Chrysler & Ford both had that kind of schedule: I don't recall the T-bolt intro date, but the '68 CJ 428 Mustangs debuted publicly at the Winternationals.

I would like to see any evidence of a 65 Dodge or Plymouth being ready for Pomona in February of 1964. I was at the Lions test session (and at Fontana) with the 64 Ramcharger Hemi car - it failed to perform as well as the 64 Maxwedge car so the Hemi car sat while the wedge was raced.

And yes, the hemi had Carter's on it. Rumor was the car failed to perform because the cam was not centerlined properly. Other rumor was a bad converter.

Certainly not in '64, but the sedans were there in '65, as were the 2% HTs; Tommy Grove had the Missile there, which was one of the latter. There was even a Plymouth ad showing the car there. The 10/15 cars made Beeline. This is from my buddy who ran the Missile after Tommy; talked to him yesterday.
There are videos on Youtube of the Beeline race, I'm told.
