Looking for opinions. I am running Indy 440-1 heads with external oil lines to heads. Just freshened motor. Installed aluminum main caps and girdle. New roller lifters. New pushrods. New Harland sharp 1.6 ratio rocker arms. New oil pump. It has lower oil pressure than it had before rebuild. I had the top end restricted at .070 using Indy rocker arms. Now restricted to .045. Oil pressure still low. Top end is flooded with oil. Anyone out there have experience with this issue and how small is to small for restriction. Never had any issues in the past 1000 runs with this prior to new setup

Thanks. I am assuming you have no issues with pushrods!

None yet and none that I'm aware of, yet whistling devil
I think the big thing about hurting pushrods is when they rub against the head or block and or won't drop down away from the adjusters when setting the valve lash cold, in other words pulling the pushrod up against the adjuster and seeing if it will drop down on it's own weight scope
Don't get me wrong, I have hurt more than one pushrod due to not preventing the problems that burn the tips ups realcrazy whiney shruggy
BTW, I do use Manton series 3, or better, only on all my Hi Po motors, street or strip thumbs

I have plenty of clearance around pushrods. Just so not used to having low oil pressure. Thanks for your reply

restrictor size woould be in relation to the volume of oil being pumped in my opinion

with the billet milodon pump and .003 bearing clearance with h&s rockers i have .028 restrictor in each head

what oil pump are you running

I'd keep digging. new pump/restricted more & now less psi... I dont have an ans but I would check everything (relevent) that was changed starting with the pump.

What pump?

What block?

What lifters and is the block bushed? What is the lifter to bore clearance? Any changes made to block to assist in oil return?

All that said, I often start with .045, and typically will reduce from there. I would not go much below .030 usually though. The beauty is, its a very fast and easy change to make, and then check it. Has the engine been down the track yet? Need to see how it acts up at speed, RPM and under motion.

Pull the valley center plate, and prime with a drill. Will probably see everything you need to know, along with same on rockers.

I took my 915 castings off that was using stock oil feed to H/S rockers, to SR's with oil feed from back of block. Finally leveled out oil pressure with .040 restrictors in each line.

Stock block. Milodon dual line swinging pickup. M63hv pump. Lifters are comp cams endure x. Oil pressure is at 45 at idle. Instantly jumps to 75 with a little throttle. I know this is still ok just not used to it being below 65 at idle. Am I just paranoid? I have run the same block for almost 20 years and this is the first time I have ever had oil pressure this low.

Me thinks your worried over nothing tsk grin
AKA your golden up My old pump gas 400 stroker motor had 20 lbs at 850 RPM idle with 5W20 Wt. oil at 170+ F oil temps here in the summer, it had 30 Lbs. at 1200 and 65 lbs. above 3000 RPM up
I use the ten Lbs. for each 1000 RPM rule on determining if I have enough oil pressure scope

Thanks for all the input. Restricted oil to .032 to each head. Also removed oil pump relief valve and polished it. I forgot to do this when I installed it. Oil pressure steady at 65 at hot idle and 80 at approximately 2500 rpm
