In reference to accessing the onboard computer system of the WH/WK...What do you guys recommend as far as interface? I prefer an OBDII cable with software to use in conjunction with my laptop. Something that offers DTC, Bus Parameter editing in the control modules.

I have similar cable for my VW from RossTech which lets me access all this and more below. Just looking for this on the 2009 Jeep. Helps when you get a part failure, and the part number is in the program and you can order it up instead of looking for one of the many variations. Thanks

I know there is WiTech (too much $$), Starscan, I also some knockoffs on ebay from China and Turkey. I dont wanna spend over $400 on cable and program. Suggestions?

I've heard good things about Enginuity scanners.

https://www.autoenginuity.com/products/scantool/

Read the user manual at the bottom of the page to see if it fits your needs.

Also, not PC based but in your price range:

The AutoEnginuity looks like it would give me access to the different controllers. I wonder if anyone is here on the board who owns one and can verify if you can access everything.

The Autel looks like its more of a scanner/reader not an editor

Thanks for posting that John

I 1st used a Snapon 2500 ("red brick") now have recently bought a Solus. orig version, updated to 2014 (new enough for me) got it cheap my red brick is only good to 2001, only updateable to about '08 and would have cost me more to update then to buy the Solus. I like the Snap on a whole lot better for Mopars than the Genisys OTC that is our "shop scanner" at work. that one is more geared to GM junk.....

I usually just use the OBDII reader function of the Torque app on my cell phone with a OBDII to bluetooth adaptor. Pretty inexpensive, but limited to just reading and clearing falt codes.
If it is something harder to troubleshoot, I borrow my friends Snap-on "red brick" as mentioned above. Only used it to figure out the LH 3.5L had a leaking intake manifold gasket.

I've been looking for a higher end scanner ($1500+) and even those have limited editing ability.

I guess if you do it on a daily basis...you need something more. I am gonna buy the Enginuity and see how it goes.

I got the autoenginuity about 10 yrs ago, its been updated dozens of times
but i never opted to upgrade. the base is a generic obd2 version, in order to access bi directional tests etc you have to also buy the enhanced module for what ever brand you want.

Please report back.

Here's the one I'm daring myself to buy; a recent $800 trip to the dealer might have paid half the cost if I could scan/diagnose the problems myself.

I've been looking into these for awhile, and am hesitating because there's not much hands on info from actual owners and users. I need to be able to check fuel trim and cycle 2 wheel ABS and such on my 99 Dakota. I would also like to be able to maintain my 05 SRT-4 as well.

These are expensive tools and I don't want to buy one that won't work right
