All that i ever did with mine was to put it in the bead cleaning cabinet, and went and did it's thing on it. Haven't got a clue as to the type of grit that was in the cabinet at that time. Whoever had the cabinet, where i worked at the time.

Those manifolds are corroding all the time, even after having them cleaned up, unless you have them Dow Coated to prevent further corrosion I installed one last year on a early 1966 street Hemi motor in a 1963 Dodge Polara 440 hardtop for a friend and his Son, it was brand new and part of it was corroded black and part was dark gun metal grey from corrosion I had a old 426 Hemi Cragar magnesium blower manifold cleaned and Dow coated by Mert Littlefield blower company a long time ago, it looks exactly the same now as it did when we had it done is what my customer is saying I had a old set of Motor Wheel Magnesium rear rims, what a pain to keep up

Gibbs oil, according to the street rod freaks on the H.A.M.B. Don't believe much they have to say, but I have friends that use it and swear by it.

Restoring a BO29 Car. Its an original 68 BO29 intake, its nasty looking. I did not know it I could bead blast it. If so what grit? and if I can, what do I do to keep nice? thanks

GIBBS BRAND LUBRICANT ,Its the best for magnesium,it seems like snake oil when you speak of it.But when it comes to corrosion its the best.NASA do not do an electrical connection with out GIBBS,.It is a must have in the workshop/home.if its 45 bucks here in oz it should be 20 bucks US ,Give it a try.😆

If so what grit? and if I can, what do I do to keep nice? thanks Once blasted its not the correct finish,I aquired an old supercharged nitro honda cb350 as last raced in 1976,it had a lot of heavyish corrosion etc just been spraying with Gibbs every couple of months for the last year, corrosions all gone rust spots on chrome gone paint is more vibrant and all cracks in rubbers gone and its offically still as found nothing more than some really gentle rubbing on some of the crustiest spots.Pretty much spent $80 and done [censored] all and its finished .

I don't blast if I can keep from it. If you want the natural finish you can remove the paint with stripper (might take many applications). When you have the paint off, spray it with WD-40, it will soak it in. Be sure to spray inside the runners and underneath. Might need to do it once a week for awhile until it stabilizes then it will last a long time. Decades.

X 10 on no blasting. It changes the surface forever, or at least until you can have the factory finish redone, which may be never. Maybe baking soda will clean without changing the surface, but glass beading makes it furry. For a slightly different look, I glass beaded all the aluminum on one engine and then shot it with high temperature clear. Now it's a shiny gray color, but that's what I was after. Gibbs Lubricant is entirely different from Joe Gibbs Driven motor oil. Here's a link: http://www.gibbsbrandlubricant.com/shop.htmR. Let's not forget Boeshield T-9. https://boeshield.com/products/

So I called these guys, talked about the process and then I asked him how to take the paint off and he's said to sand blast it. Everyone says not to. He said 300.00 to polish it and 250.00 to have it coated.
