Built this one so we can break it down to make a transport stan if needed, and it rolls real nice with the big wheels and does not walk with engine running

That engine run stand on garagejournal looks to be a good one. Too bad there arent more pics of how he built it.

Etek is a member here also, so I'm sure he will chime in if he sees this.

Here's mine. I havent painted it yet...lol. But I have a dirt area outside the garages, so I needed big wheels. The pnuematic tires keep it from shaking the floor or moving around, and I made it high enough to run the valves comfortably and open on the bottom should I need to drop a pan. I think it was $28 in recycler steel, the radiator from a junked plow truck (large w/3 core), plus the casters in the front, the tractor tires for the rear, and the gages. I pull the gage cluster and everything else stays out in the weather. I dont want to stand in the exh path.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

The starter plate looks like a good lowbuck idea. I wonder if you could use a torque convertor instead of the flywheel?

I doubt it. ATF would surely come out and make a mess. Run it dry and it will eventually self-destruct inside and come out of balance. That's assuming the flexplate doesn't break first - the converter really needs some support on the rear hub while it spins.

Flywheel is a much better idea.

Parts I seek: driver doorpanel, 65 Sport Fury, prefer black, needs to be 7-8 on 10 scale, might buy set 16" x 6" Dodge truck wheel(s), from early 70s?, takes 9" dogdish - need for a research job so cheaper is better. 69-73 C-body caliper brackets and/or splashields Send a PM.

Yeah, that's a really smart idea! Let's run an engine without a frame, open exhaust manifold and no cooling system. Hey, let's run it for a long time, it won't hurt it!

I made one like Dartsport's from a generator frame. I can bolt the engine on with a bell housing and support the front with scrap mounts. It was free, and I used stuff I had laying around.

I built one from 2" muffler pipe for doing calibration stuff on 2.2 and 2.5 engines.

Works good! Factory motor mounts, used a old transaxle case that the diff blew out, Omin aluminum radiator, wiring harness from an 88 CSX-T, Napa battery and a 3 gallon fuel jug.

Has casters so I can roll it about, nice and sturdy too.

Makes a nice generator in a pinch.
