Not sure which way you are going with your restoration but I can suggest using a modern day Group 24 maintenance-free battery and use a battery topper that makes it look "factory correct" For 65 bux it looks great and does fool a lot of people,LOL linky; http://www.batterytoppers.com/Hope this helps

I have gutted two of mine now & hidden a lightweight racing battery inside of them.

I have a yellow cap purchased 6 years ago and still works fine. Yes Antique Auto Battery. Nice folks to deal with. It should be dying on you very soon. LOL. About six years was the max I ever got out of one. The last two I purchased barely lasted 2 years each.

Thanks for sharing it I used a topper on one of my cars. Looks a lot better than having just the Walmart battery that I bought after my repro red cap battery went bad. Did have to modify the battery hold down to make the topper work with it, the toppers are a little too wide to use with stock hold downs.

Minor detail but still looks good. A Mopar Group 27 topper would have been nice but speaking to Carl of Battery Toppers he does not have enough demand to start making them.

I bought my yellow cap in August of 2010 and my red cap in October 2011 from Antique Auto Battery and both are doing fine. Great batteries but read the instructions on charging, no battery tenders.

I gutted mine as well, but went from the top. I just thought it would be an easier way to work with it. I then just have a coupe of small finish nails sticking up from the body to align the top. Don't have a finished version, but looks similar to 6PAK's.

I still have a third one that is now dead also but I haven't gutted it yet. Thinking of saving it for the race car & gutting it to put another lightweight racing battery in side of it to put in the trunk of my racecar to still keep that Mopar theme even if is in the trunk. LOL.
