in the 440 post i see it has a threaded fitting for the outlet and a nipple for the inlet. On a factory installed 383 fuel pump is it the same? I have heard it is but the replacement uses a hose nipple for the outlet. I've tried looking at old manuals and I see where this might be possible. thanks

Hey 70, that's exactly the problem I ran into. All the aftermarket part information available for a stock fuel pump all show the two nipple pump for a 383 and 440. It'll work if you want to redo the fuel outlet line with a rubber hose to fuel vapor separator but make sure the belts don't make contact and rub through the hose....

What I ended up doing was finding and purchasing a 440 pump with the outlet fitting for tube but the inlet is a 3/8 nipple and the tank line is 5/16. I don't know if it's accurate since the fittings are parallel to each other. I think the OE fittings may be pointed away from each other like one on EBay right now claiming to be correct for $200.00. Are 440-4 3/8? or just 440-6? Anyway,I'm OK with the one I have since it was less than half the price. I was able to stretch the hose onto the 3/8 nipple and used a 3/8 Keystone clamp.
