1971 Superbee Saginaw pump with keyed shaft and return line pointed at 9pm on backside - Has a curved bend coming out then it looks like it's spot welded to backside then comes straight out at 9 pm
Tried to order a rebuilt power steering pump for my 71 Superbee from all the local jobbers , everyone of them came with what looked like a new style square type GM reservoir with the return line hose pointed up
Tried doing a little research here , and it seems to Bee the normal direction I guess on these jobbers
Year One and Classic Industries claim to come with the correct reservoir at a price
My reservoir is all dented up like I was using a pry bar in the last 30 years I guess for tightening the belt Who knows
I have a newly rebuilt 432 Stroker motor and detailed engine compartment and of course now this Saginaw pump decides to leak and look like ****
What are my options
Anybody rebuild these if I send out ? Reputable and make them look nice and pretty Already have the lines and brackets off - Got the pulley Off also and it looks bent , keyed pulley
Is it something I could do ? Kits , Bearings , Seals ?
Hell I just put a 432 Stroker together
Bottom line it looks like the reservoir is the only thing holding these rebuilt units back from jobbers
Thanx Scott

Doing a pump assembly rebuild is super easy. NAPA has the kits. The can is really thin, cheap metal. I’d say your best bet is finding a good junkyard unit and rebuilding. I did mine. Same thing. Some dunderhead pried up on the underside to tighten a belt. Fortunately you can’t see the dent from topside.
Be prepared for the paint on a rebuilt can to be sprayed on bare metal and nasty cheap.
I’m listening.

Thanx
Have it off
Brackets and Pulley are off - Keyed shaft
Removed two studs on backside along with large flare nut for high pressure hose Accumulator and spring removed or came out
Easy way to remove reservoir without hammering on reservoir ?
Any tricks to get reservoir removed from pump ? Won't budge and from what I understand it's just a large o ring sealing it
Pump has never been apart
Thanx Scott

Thanx Scott a gentle rap around the edge of the pump where it meets the res should do it without bending it. Maybe chill the thing if that doesn't do it.

it should come out easily. Once rear bolts, studs and the pressure hose flare nut is out, the only piece that keeps the pump attached to housing is the oil ring "pressure" against the housing itself.
Actually you didn't need to remove the pulley to make this unless you are changing front seal... and not even if, because if you are making a rebuilding job, removing the snap ring on shaft inside the pump will free the shaft allong with pulley. Which is needed to replace the front seal comfortably anyway

Thanx
My front pulley is bent also , another reason
I might get back to it later this week when it gets above zero
Or send it out to powersteering.com for a complete rebuild and restoration
