Someone just posted the pdf of the cars magazine review of the 1965 lightweight coronet.

It says in the magazine that the shifter is labled PRND123. Was this a misprint? Or is this different from the A990 cars with the RN12D?

.....I know that they did not relabel the 1968 Darts and Cudas but I do not know about the 1965 cars...

A990-motored Torqueflites were RN12D, no Park provision, according to 2 guys I know that received the cars new. This would include the 4 "2%" hardtops and the A/T A/FX (aka AWB) cars.

i looked over a 65 a990 dodge back in 1967 and i think i remember seeing PRN123. the guy who owned it said there was a detent to keep it from going into third when it was pulled down. i made the same thing in my duster just by grinding the detent plate, worked slick. i could be wrong about the 3 its been so long ago. mike
also this was on the steering column not on the floor

Check out the thread that has the A990 Texas Rattler in it. It has a pic of the steering column with the correct shift pattern.

I guess I was really wondering if what they are talking about is an A990 car, and if so then it must be a mis print in the magazine.

Not only did the shift quadrant not have Park but the park components in the tailhousing were also deleted, the tailhousing was a special casting with no provisions for park.

John, that's what I've heard too (no Park mechanism or quadrant callout on RO/WO), and the 2 sources I know and referred to got their RO cars directly from Plymouth and were on The Program.

I know personally two original owners of 65 Dodges.
While working on an A990 car I quizzed them numerous times about a lot of little details. The park discussion came up and both said without hesitation their cars had park. As a foot note they also said the batteries in each car were mounted differently. One longitudinal to the frame and the other perpendicular. I also know the original owner of the dealer that sold one of the cars. An interesting foot note there is he told me when they got the car they were out in the street raising hell with it and it got away from from one of them and the engine expired itself on the road. Chrysler would not cover it so he ate it.

The 2 types of battery positioning has been documented. What you're saying is that the 2 guys you know had A990-motored '65s with Park? Of course, the street cars would, I'm only referring to WO & RO A990 cars. Did the 2 guys you're referring to get their A990 cars new from Chrysler, or were they converted/built from parts, or did they get the cars used?
I always thought it odd that there'd be no Park, but Chrysler was pretty serious about eliminating weight at the time those cars were spec'd.

Both cars were A990 and purchased new. One from a local dealer. I knew that car well. The other not too far from here. One guy traded in a 63 Max Wedge car. The dealer did not want a car like that on the lot so the A990 buyer pulled the 426 out and installed a sellable 318. Sometime in 1965 a person went there, purchased a nice drivable 318 Belvedere for a couple of hundred bucks and drove it into the ground never knowing what it really was. One of the notices from Chrysler one guy received was on filling the muffler with ballast. He did so. The next weekend at Niagara it fell on the track. They thought it was so funny watching the track official drag a 150 pound muffler off the track.
