Do the Victors come with the springs you need to work with your cam? Will those used heads require a trip to the machine shop prior to installation?
With only that minimal amount of work, if the Victors have the newer style chambers, they will be way down on flow compared to the TF270’s, especially in the low and mid-lifts.
Depending on what you do for rockers, there could be a few hundred $$$$ difference between the two.
I’d look into exactly what the header fitment situation is between the two so you really know what you’re getting into.

If I go with the Victors I will save myself about $1500. What do you think? You’re saying you can buy the Victors for about $1000.

Be very careful on your decision making when it comes to buying used race parts I have used a bunch of different heads on my race cars over the years from stock iron 516 on street motors to NHRA legal stock 1963 M.W. heads on my old NHRA A/SA Plymouth Belvedere to Indy 440-1 on bracket motors. My current bracket S/P car has a set of used Victor M.W. heads on my 505 C.I. 400 block, I raced that motor with a set of Eddy RPM heads that I had MCH CNC port them and then switch the M.W. Victors that winter, mine where M.W. ported all the way to the seats, not like Edlebrock said they sold them out of the box originally I wouldn't buy another set of them regardless of price Buy the good ones once, don't repeat my mistakes on trying to save money by buying and using used race parts , especially heads

If you get a pic of the chambers and post it, I can tell you which version they are. However, without some reworking, the low/mid lift flow on the first version wasn’t great, and it pretty much just plain sucked on the second.
IMO, some of the $1500 in savings should be spent in improving the flow a bit, if you went the Victor route.
The overall fit and finish of the TF heads are just “nicer”. Pretty hard to find a good argument against them.

At over 500 cubes, that shouldn’t be too hard really.
As a counterpoint to Cabs story, Todd at Comp Wedge pulled some pretty nicely ported RPM heads(over 300cfm) off of (what I believe was) a 493 with a smallish race roller cam that was in a very well sorted out bracket car(multi time track champion), and replaced them with some Hughes CNC ported MW Victors and the car picked up about 4 tenths as I recall(something like 9.90’s to 9.50’s).
One of the few dyno results I’ve seen from the MW Victors were from Brian at IMM. As I recall the numbers were pretty good.

I have the cnc MW victor on a 511 with 11.25 compression. Havent been to the track yet, but not real impressed at this point. I paid $1100 for HS rockers which isnt to far from T&D prices. What was your combo before? J.Rob

I had an Indy headed 408 on pump gas that ran 10.30's with 3300# race weight.
