It's nice to fill up at the gas station with no worries. If a 10.5 572 can't overpower your street tires there is something wrong with it. I see 11 and 12 second cars with big inch $25k engines around here all the time and it just makes the owners look stupid IMO.

I agree, you will have more fun and drive it a lot more often on pump gas. My Duster(wedge motor) runs on 92 octane, drive it almost every day and runs mid 10's at the track with highway gears. You'll make plenty of power either way.

Another option is E85, then you can run 13.5 compression at around $2.50 a gallon. Lots of guys in my area run it, but I will say it puts out a strange smell. grin

Been there and did that. Careful what you wish for. I wanted the most NA HP I could have for a pro street car. Super high comp, huge roller, T-ram etc. Was fun 1st season. Could barely drive it more than 5 miles. Got tired of it and sat for years. Got rid of it and now have pro street car with big inch pump gas motor. Way more fun and can actually drive it.

And it burns twice as much. Nephew has an e85 nova...30 gallons to go 100 miles. No I couldn't believe it either until I saw it. But then he runs 2 speeds, idle and WFO!

I wend with 9.5 to 1 compression, we only have 85 octane in the mountains and I want to be able to drive anywhere with my Hemi. Tim

Most likely will talk with builder on Monday. Next question is choice of heads and availability of same in relationship to chosen compression ratio. Builder is favoring Mopar aluminum rather than edelbrock due to exterior look and rather than Indy due to past quality issues. Mentioned Stage 5 and he thought they were very difficult to get. Not sure about that as I have not tried to find a set. Thanks for your collective wisdom.

Call Tim Banning at FHO (905-797-2459) for a really good set of his CNC ported Stage V heads, he has unfinished pallets full of them according one of the other members on here scope
I ordered a top end kit(heads, EFI manifold plumded for dual throttle bodies, rocker arms and ARP head studs kit)from him and had it very shortly there after, 2 to 3 weeks is what I remembering, custom built to order up These heads are awesome bow

Thanks for the heads up. Question will the valve train for his heads fit under standard stamped steel valve covers as were used back in 66-68?. Thanks.

I have Dvorak stands, Dechelles shafts and StageV standard 1.6 ratio rockers under 68 stamped steel valve covers. Tim

The exhaust rockers are the most likely to contact the stock steel covers. And usually the center 2 on each side. My current combo has Landy rockers under stock covers with only .550 lift and I had to dimple the covers for the center 2 rockers on each side.

Sometimes, just slightly slotting the bolt holes and then spreading the valve covers wider in the middle will get enough extra room for the rockers to clear if they do touch.

Master, again and still

I chose the edelbrock Victor Jr. heads - 13-1 compression - also used the Barton valve-train 1.6 ratio with push rod oiling. we ended up at 870 HP at 6900 RPM with the stage V intake and two 800 cfm edelbrock carbs- BEST Machine built the engine

Looked at a bunch of different heads at first - but the edelbrocks had the pushrod tube already in them - had the large intake valve and took very little clean-up work to to make them flow around 420 at .700 and most of all the price was reasonable - I have more in the valve-train than the heads but I wanted the best in valve-train and when you look at stage V and others available you come within a couple of hundred of the Barton by the time you price it all out. And the Barton fits under stamped steel valve covers

I see no reason why you could not get close to 800 HP out of a pump gas 572 with eddies and a mild cam

It's fun as long as you don't count the cost. Just keep the end result in sight. A high horsepower Hemi is as much fun as you can have and still keep your clothes on. Dave

I see you have a 605 hemi. What are the specifics to get that displacement? I know the 572 is 4.5 x 4.5 but do you increase bore diameter or stroke? Any downside of going that big? Thanks in advance.

My aluminum head 528 Hemi has 11.25 comp. and runs great ion the 93 octane, 10% methanol pump gas we have locally.

Does that stroke require external oiling?
