Well...in 35 years of building bullets, it's finally happened..a HUGE oil leak from the rear main seal.
The engine has been sitting in the car for almost a year, but really I don't see what that has to do with it.
The seal kit was from Mopar....and actually is a Felpro seal...and when I seen the side seals were what appeared to be orange "Noodles" instead of the traditional cardboard stuff, I was a little leary. They are flimsy and hard to keep postioned when pushing the reatiner into the block.
Turns out after I dismantelled everything today, the oil was coming from the seal itself.
Looking at the seal I see nothing wrong, the crank looks OK, so could it be the mating ends of the seals that weren't sealing??? The retainer was gooped up on the sides with grey RTV so it wasn't leaking.
Anybody know of a source for the traditional style of seal kit? I don't want to go thru this BS again...NOT fun!!
Or do I use a different method of postioning the seal in the block and retainer??
