How many people here use either a Quick Fuel Q-950 or Proform 950 "Race" carb (they're basically the same carb, with a few exceptions)?
I'm curious how they worked for you "out of the box", and with what engine combination. I already have the parts on hand to build one, so I'd like to hear others' experiences.
Thanks, Brad We have talked several times about the needed changes to make em happy and ootb may work for some but they almost ALWAYS need the basic t-slot, emulsion, bleed and squirter changes to be even better. Check out the 64 Malibu on FB that I swapped out a messed up old school(won't name)annular 4150 to a QFHolley 850 I tested on my Dart..........night n day but ootb it was not........your mileage may vary.........

We love the calibrations on the Proform race carbs. Very close out of the box. We have had trouble with the QF carbs lately. Got a 950 on the shelf right now, nearly new, I will sell you for $550.
At least for the Q series, they use the same components as the Proform "Race" models of the same size, except the QFT base plates have slabbed throttle shafts and maybe a different linkage. They even come with the same tune, from everything I can find out. Not sure why the same size in one brand should run differently than the other brand. Thanks for the offer, but my carb cup runneth over already.

Thanks for the offer, but my carb cup runneth over already. I didn't say they are the fastest, but they are not bad out of the box. I had a PS carb I couldn't make work on my 512 or anything else for that matter. Custom "Built" for my engine blah blah blah......Well, it took two seasons to get it right, and what I stumbled on was a pretty good tune up on that 4150...Found a couple tricks that the car really liked. Mine was better by .1 than most 4150 carbs. Put a lot of carbs up against it, and only 1 actually beat it, ....Not a 4150, but one finally bested my carb. That was Thumpers 1050 4500 carb he built for me. Now I had to jet up some because I use pump E10 and tweak a couple of things....But it beat my best carb, by .08 and 2mph when all was said and done! And next season, we are going to shatter all my records with that car!

MOST stuff that is sent to me especially the new Pro-form/QF stuff is pretty nice and the tunes are just a bit off but every carb has to be tuned into the combo and it's going to be based on several factors. Altitude, weight, fuel, compression, gear, vert etc. and some are installed and set new bests and a few have me scratching my head but all start w/a baseline tune to make YOUR job easier and hopefully new best et's or mileage or whatever better..........

From what I see they are the same and QF seems to favor red where PF uses black n purple generally but as far as tunes, it's about how they ship em out the door and they are VERY similar according to the size cfm wise...........

From what I see they are the same and QF seems to favor red where PF uses black n purple generally but as far as tunes, it's about how they ship em out the door and they are VERY similar according to the size cfm wise........... My comments build off of yours... What I see is the same when comparing QFT Q-Series with comparable size Proform "Race" carbs: - Main body and boosters; they even have both companies' names on the main body castings, regardless of carb brand - Metering blocks (4-emulsion holes) with pre-drilled threaded e-holes, except where blocked off by undrilled e-jets - Jets, IFRs, MABs, IABs, emulsion configuration - Float bowls (I'm A$$uming the same floats, N&S & hardware, too) What I see that is different when comparing QFT Q-Series with comparable size Proform "Race" carbs: - Baseplate throttle shafts --> Q-Series throttle shafts are "slabbed" (thinned), whereas Proform are unmachined (round) --> Q-Series throttle shafts are installed using teflon bushings, IIRC, whereas Proform shafts ride against the anodized aluminum surface --> Color (BFD)... Q-Series have red anodized metering blocks, base plates, etc., whereas Proforms are anodized purple --> There are more carb sizes & booster options available from QFT than Proform; Proform does offer a couple of those only as separate main bodies (e.g., 1.59" venturi w/ annular boosters) I only compared QFT's Q-Series with Proform "Race" carbs, because QFT's Race-Q lineup uses some different components than the Q-Series, such as: - Metering blocks with 5 emulsion holes, e-jets in all emulsion holes, and a different emulsion configuration - Base plates with "dual pattern" 4150/4500 mounting holes - Bearings used w/ the shafts installation as an upgrade to the simple Teflon bushings, IIRC I have noticed that although the Q-Series and Race-Q share the same main bodies & boosters for the same size, their tunes aren't always the same. That's probably because they have different emulsion characteristics due to different metering blocks, which can certainly impact the tune.

You have dug deep into this stuff... More than any sane person would have bothered. I need to get my priorities straight.

Well I know enough about women to know that your wife loves being married to a guy who has so many carbs and knows so much about them. If you don't believe me then just ask her.....
