I'm almost ready to order a new cam for my 383 SBM... I have a new set of solid lifters on the shelf (Non-EDM).

My cam grinder sez I can't use an EDM lifter with my stock LA shaft rockers but I wonder if using a Crower Cam Saver lifter where there is a flat machined on the outside of the lifter body would help get oil to the lifter face. I don't run real high spring rates ...maybe 150/400 or so... just wondering if anyone has used these lifters?

I'll call my cam guy to get his opinion, too.

I put a set of hydraulic crower cam savers in my 496 BBC GMC dually when I had to change a flat cam. Its been over a year since I swapped cams and no issues at all.

I have never used the cam saver lifters. But I have several times grooved the lifter bores. Does about the same thing, and you can use any lifter you want. Lifters spin in the bores so the relief will splash oil in a circular pattern. Groving the lifter bore puts the extra oil on the lobe where you need it, the spinning lifter does not affect the spray. http://www.enginebuildermag.com/2006/07/vizards-view-avoiding-flat-tappet-cam-and-lifter-failure/

I've never heard of any modern, made after 1960, Mopar V8 that couldn't use EDM lifters confused
I don't use them due to Ma Mopar machining the lifter bores extra big leaving a lot of side clearances, .0017 + on all the ones I've check shruggy
Those types of clearances end up flooding the cam lobes, unlike some of the GM motors having less than .0010, especially the BB 396 to 454 C.I. motors work
Check your lifter to lifter bore clearances and go from there scope up twocents

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
