Looking for the current (2017) payouts for Top Fuel and Funny Car. Not contingencies but the actual payout for the winner, runner-up and the round losers.

It's printed in National Dragster for each race. It's about 10K to qualify for the fuel classes, 40K to win.

If you win the race you've lost money for the weekend.

I heard on the TV coverage it costs $50 Thousand to make 1 run. Have you seen what Don Garlits has built? It's a radical departure. But, it sure would bring a lot more people into the sport.

Depends on the sponsor. If you are winning races in NHRA fuel classes, you are making money. The NHRA payouts are like the band getting so much percentage of the door or bar.

If you're talking about electric cars, the only ones who would be interested in that are geeks and nerds. No engines, noise? I'm out.

Obviously I don't have access to ND....that's why I'm asking for actual numbers.

It looks like this John. This is from 2014 but it's the only one I could find at the moment.

Don't have a recent one to look at, but I don't believe that is in the Dragster anymore. I guess they got too embarrassed to print it.

I looked through some recent ones and couldn't find anything but the total awards posted in the event preview section. I only have two around here as I take them to the barber shop or just chuck them.

That's close enough. Thanks.

I've often wondered how these Top Fuel guys who only run a few events a year can do it; looks like if you made one mediocre qualifying pass and blew the tires off on the first round, you could actually cover the event expenses. Of course, that's only guaranteed if only 16 cars show up.

If someone shows up with a fuel car to race an NHRA event chances are they have some money to burn. Check out a guy named Mike Salinas and his operation.

I believe the money for first round loser and/or 17th & 18th qualifier has been increased. I've seen a few guys like Jeff Diehl and others say they sold their alcohol cars and went fuel racing because the alcohol cars paid a grand for first round while the fuel cars paid ten times as much. They could make a run or two and come away with a profit if they didn't tear up a bunch of stuff. The big teams and NHRA are also helping these guys with parts, money, tune up help, etc. It's in everyone's best interest to have full fields. The bottom half of the field is usually guys who are getting help. I'm not opposed to this.

Dave I see you slipped in that run against Wade Samuel in there. Nice win light for a National Event and Division title there smile

Mike Salinas has always had nice stuff. Even before he went TF racing his stuff was always top notch an over the top anal in quality and cleanliness.
