Does anyone make a gear set for a 727 that 3.00, 2.00, and 1.00?
A friend has this done about 20 years ago to a TH400, so he could run a mild gear out back, and still have the multiplication.

This is going into a 4600 wagon, 526 stoker, currently has 3.73's.
i'd like to go down to 3.23's for highway driving, but would like to keep the tq multiplication. This is a '65 cable shift trans, a GV is out of the equation.

Your 526 Is the TQ multiplier! It will do great with a 3.23 --just try it!

I expect you would have to go with the 904 lightwight internals and case mods to be able to do that with a 727. Not really a street combination.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

The low gear set is 2.77 1st. I'd just install the 3.23. My old race car (498, 3450lbs, 10 teens) ran exactly the same with a 4.10 and a 4.56.

Call Dave Smith at Pro Trans (661-940-7400) to see if he makes a low gear set like that scope

My concern, for wanting to do this, is the weight.
I see plenty of strokers in lighter cars with 3.23’s, but not a car that weighs 4,600lbs.

My '60 NewYorker at around 4300-4400 lbs with its 496" stroker and longram intakes drives great with the 3.23 gears in the rearaxle.
Stock convertor in the ('64) PB-transmission.
Pulls like a freight train. Even with a tune that still could be improved.

I ran the car with 3.90 gears few years ago to the track and made some runs but the engine liked the longer gears much better.

What are you running for a converter?

If it is anywhere close to being right for your current combo you might only lose a few tenths going to 3.23's.

It should still have no problems embarrassing Porsches. drive

I run a low gear set in my 4100 tank. I 60 around 1.42-1.44 on motor with a 9.5” converter. I run a 30” Radial slick and a 4.30 gear set in my Dana.
Getting a big car to move quick is different than moving a small car. I run a solid roller 268/276 and go through the traps around 7000 at 132 and change. 10.14 is best I’ve run on motor. Big cars can move. Takes a bit more planning and strong parts. Overkill on parts LOL.

1971 Plum Crazy Super Bee. 572 World Aluminum block with a Cope 727 & Dana 4.10 out back. 9.88 @ 138 with a 1.35 60 NA. Dialed back to 10.0’s. 4000 lbs with me in it.

I have heard that some of the 727 out of motor homes have a low gear set. Might be worth looking into.

I've never heard of any one on here finding any of them shruggy
I believe Direct Connection started making and selling them after Mopar went bankrupt the first time and only sold them through the direct Connection parts dealers. I bought and use one set in my old M.W. stocker, it liked it up

No 727 ever came from the factory with a low gear set.

WRT 3.00, 2.00, and 1.00

If there were a 3.00:1 low gear, 2nd would be closer to 1.60.

With that many cubes I would be tempted to try a 2.96 rear gear, as long as you have a good converter that has a decent stall rpm. I only ran .20 slow (10.40 on a 10.20 dial) accidently leaving in second gear. That is an SLR of 5.9 (4.10x 1.45) versus 7.2 , a 2.45 and 2.96 combo.

I'll have the car out this weekend, if the weather is decent.
I've never bothered to check where the converter actually stalls. Am i looking for brake stall or flash stall?
It's a manual valve body, so to check flash stall, just be in third at about 20mph, then nail it?

I live in an area with lots of stop and go driving, around town lights, etc. I usually just leave it in drive around town, and come off a stop easy. it's a pain to keep pushing buttons all the time!
