The only thing I have to say about these is "don't buy Chinese, I.E. Horrid Freight, etc. If you buy one for much less than about 60-100 bucks, it's probably junk
I know---I know--- "you" have 3 or 5 or 15 and 'they all work great' but YOU don't have a thousand or 10 thousand, and YOU haven't seen the ones that the fire dept pulled out of a burning garage.
Many of these Chineseo junk don't have proper protection in case of failure, and I'm NOT referring to a fuse or breaker.
The other thing is, you can check a battery once in a while--like once a month-- and charge it up. You are MUCH more likely to ruin a good battery from overcharge than you are from storage over the winter when it's simply "down" a tad. (Don't confuse that with "almost dead.")

I have a "Battery Tender" that I rotate from vehicle, to lawn tractor, to ATV all winter long. It only puts out like a 1/2 amp charge and shuts off at 14.5 volts, so it's not going to overcharge anything.

A true trickle charger will not overcharge a battery.

A Battery Tender does not shut off at 14.25 V but rather shifts into maintenance mode at 13.25-13.3V (at VERY little current--a batt will only draw about 100ma from one of these at that voltage). Very healthy for the batt. I have an old battery that I use in a solar circuit and it powers my Hot Tub Radio and 12volt lighting. Been hooked up for YEARS (at least 4), checked the electrolyte level last week (after 4 years) I expected it to be almost dry, it was full. Batt is 9 years old, still load tests fine!
The trickle charger on this is actually a Schumacher "Companion"--very similar to the "Battery Tender".
