Hello all, I was wondering if a 1964 poly 318 can be dropped into a 1966 Coronet that currently has a poly 318 in it. From searching around it I think the transmission should bolt right on but will I need to change motor mounts or do any modifications to make the engine fit? The 318 in the car now needs a complete rebuild and I have a line on a rebuilt 1964 318 that can be had for a good price. I like the look of the poly and want to keep one in the car if possible. Let me know what you all think!

I havent done this swap but I would guess that ita a 100% direct swap. Cant see why there would be a differance between a 64 and 66 Poly. But there are a few "Poly Experts" on here, just wait for them. DaveJ

Check the size of the hole in the back of the crank to see if the round nub on the torque convertor will fit the hole before you put the 64 motor in. I don't know for sure if the poly cranks have a different size hole between those model years. 273 LA motors had smaller holes in the earlier years, and the snout of a later convertor won't fit without some massaging. Good luck

You will need to use the engine brackets from the 66 car as the 64 car has different brackets and K frame.

The engine sits back farther in the 66 than the 64.

Use the 66 mounting parts, check the convertor hub as stated, but otherwise you should be good to go.

I used to care but....... things have changed
