I am afraid it is time to change the Accel "dual sync" distributor that has served me well for ~15 years.

The crank signal became intermittent and the car was bucking. Switch to batch fire which does not use the crank signal cleared it up for a while and now the cam sensor is acting up.

I really like having sequential EFI and my engine was tuned for it... but right now a simple distributor would get her going on batch fire... and maybe crank trigger down the road.

Suggestions for replacement distributor welcome.

What engine? I have a couple of ready to run distributors for sale in the parts section for RB engines. I also have a Holley Dual Sync for an RB that I'd sell.

Andy,

Its a B engine. The Accel dual sync is acting up and does not appear to be very serviceable.

Short term, a simple trigger distributor for the XFI computer + MSD 6 box will get her going. I will probably add a crank trigger later to get the sequential capability back.

Whatever I get will be locked out and the XFI controls timing. I run a blaster coil.

So far my list includes 1) simple reman distributor from the parts store. Readily available and low cost. Cons are I need male connectors on the cap and I'm not sure how a reman would like 6,000-6,500 RPM and somewhat higher secondary loads. Also not sure how to lock it out (welding?) 2) Basic Firecore performance distributor. I think this will handle the application, male plug connectors and extra clearance around the cap is nice. Not sure how to lock this one out either but I am guessing there is provision. 3) MSD billet distributor. Bigger cap but should fit as well as the Dual Sync I have now.

Andy, how does that Holley Dual Sync fit? What I mean is I have the FAST dual sync and had the grind the lower part of my Stealth heads for it to fit. The upper cap part just clear the head with maybe 1/16" clearance.

The Holly/Accel dual sync has a taller base vs the FAST offering and fits OK at the bottom. My cast MP valve covers had to be relieved to fit the cap.

Update... I ordered the Firecore "race" distributor. Looking forward to good fit and mostly getting her running well again.

I have some ideas and hopefully a future post on how to install crank trigger (to get sequential EFI capability back) with no impact on pulley and belt spacing.

Check out the offerings that Andy F has for a crank trigger, some really nice stuff. I have his trigger wheel on my small block.

Here is a link to some of his stuff through Fastman EFI
