What brand transmission jacks are you guys using? Looking to get one for my dad for Christmas. He doesn't have a lift and jacks the car as high as he can get it with 6 ton jack stands. All the trannies will be 727's, no other brands.

I have this one and love it.

Only thing is the strap is way to big and clumsy, almost impossible to tighten it up if the transmission is close to the body. Been meaning to replace it with something much smaller and easier to work with, but it's only been a small inconvenience at this point.

The HF jack lacks a tilt adjustment but their floor jack adapter has it. Car needs to be pretty high to use it though.

My wife bought me a Craftsman ATV jack a few years back. Aluminum so it's super light. It lifts my Harley also!

If you have decent fab skills you can build an adapter that bolts to a normal floor jack that gets the tranny "close enough". The 727 has a big wide pan so you can use a big flat plate that the pan rests on. Then just build a couple of jack screws that reach up and contact the lugs on each side of the case. If you design the jack screws correctly you'll have some tilt and rotate capability.

The tilt and rotate features on a true tranny jack are nice for a line mechanic but for home use just having the tranny held up in place is usually okay. You can often get a bolt started and then wiggle it into place.

I do have a tranny jack but I don't use it very often. It takes up a bunch of space and I'm not sure I'd buy another one if anything went wrong with it.

My wife bought me a Craftsman unit years ago that looks a lot like the Harbor Freight unit but not with the large ratchet strap, it has a small tilt adjustment just like the Harbor Freight unit has, thumb screws on one end with a manual lift by your other right or left arm that your not using on the thumb screws scope
That baby probably helped save our marriage more than once back when I raced the hemi stick shift car boogie up
She got so she hated coming out in the cold after 9:00 PM during the winter on our old asphalt drive way to help push the floor jack back and forth while I jockey the trans. in and out of that car work shruggy
I have friends who have the larger unit that is hydraulic operated like the bigger Harbor Freight unit in that add, they love them also up

John, my HF trans jack has tilt capability both front to rear and side to side. I use it anytime the trans is out of the car. In fact my JW trans is currently sitting on it waiting to go back in the car. When you get to be my age my strength is not what it used to be therefore any assistance is appreciated. I just wish it was lower to the floor.

I have the same motorcycle jack as sg66 linked above... works great once I get the trans on it. My tallest jack stands will still not let me roll it under the car so I have to load the trans on the jack under the car. No big deal, got the "tilt and block" down pretty good. fwiw I first bought the Harbor Freight aluminum motorcycle jack. It "might" work ok for a trans, but it was a weak suck for my Vrod. Craftsman unit mucho better!

I just have the back of my car on stands and the atv jack fits under it near the back an I move it to the front and slide the trans on it just by lifting the tailshaft.

The one I listed does have a tilt adjustment. It isn't a lot, I'd say about 1-1 1/2 inches at the front. Not a lot, but has always been good enough to get my 4 speed in.
