Picked up a numbers matching 72 Rallye Charger with a 440. Motor had a spun bearing so I tore it apart. Bottom end seems to be original all bearing dates are late 71. the motor has LY rods and not the Six Pack type. I have never seen a 72 HP motor with standard rods, is this common??

Does it have a neutral balancer? If so I would think it was correct. I've bought truck motors with heavy rods and nuetral balancers.

The motor has standard LY rods and the standard neutral balancer

That's what they had that day? Mopar "never say never".

What is the motor assembly date?

The reason they had to externally balance the 70-71 HP motors is because they had the heavy pistons and heavy rods. Makes since that if they removed the heavy rods and used low compression pistons, it would balance with a neutral balancer.

My '72 440 had LY rods. It had never been apart.
