What torque converter for stock 354 hemi with A518 L/U trans? Vehicle is 1951 Dodge truck.

i think you need a zero balance like the 318---and i think you can slot one of the starter holes to rotate it away from flywheel---the late flywheel has more teeth than the early one-----measure(and count) to be sure---are you using one of those bellhousing adapters with a crank adapter? it should have directions for what you are doing...

I am using the Hot Hemi's trans adapter. Zero balance is correct, stall is what I need input for.

With a stock 354 I'd use the original factory converter that came with the 518.

i would stay straight stock as well---if it is a pilothouse 51 it will not have much traction----i would see it as a really cool cruiser that looks like business---also the lockup is becoming the most common failpoint on modern torque converters----when my torque converter building friend ask me to find him an overdrive unit he ask me to find the non lockup---its only 300 rpm...

I've been away for a bit, so this a little late. I agree with the stock convertor replies.

A stock 354 has pretty good bottom end torque, start upping the cam and it goes away (moves up in the RPM range) pretty quickly. With the overdrive I'm assuming you going to be running a 3.50 or deeper gear and that with the 2.45 low gear in the 518 should make it a pretty decent combination, especially in a fairly light truck where traction will be laughable anyway.
