Really no need for alot of stall with a stock engine. Just focus on getting a good "quality" converter in a close to factory stall rating. They may take a little more "abuse".

What was factory stall ? I know that 340 didnt come with 904 so i would believe the 340 revs higher that 318. but i couldnt find info on stock speed stall

Once again, stall speed depends on power input. As the chart below shows the stock 904 converter could stall pretty high behind a 360-4, closer to the power input of a 340.

I know what the book says and I know the same converter will stall at different speeds depending on whats in front of it but talking about a stock rebuilt converter from a company like Dacco or Transtar and a near stock motor I have never seen one stall much above 15-1600 but I have only been in the trans buisness for 20+ years so I may be a newcomer to all this.
BTW I built the 904 that is in his car.

I've been around for a while too and if I had an 11" converter that wouldn't stall above 1500 on a 340 or 360 I'd be looking for a sick motor or faulty brakes.
