I have a new fuel line with a new tank and sending unit. With the sock in the tank and the sintered brass filters in the carb, do I need another inline fuel filter? A friend suggested that I install an inline filter in the new fuel line. I really don't want to cut the new line. What do you all run?

This is for a 1970 Duster with a 340 and 4 speed.

Thanks

All the early Mopars cars, pre EFI cars, I've seen came with a inline fuel filter between the fuel pump and carb. shruggy
I would put a good one in up twocents

I'd suggest a good 10 micron high flow filter between the mech pump & the carb (like OE). I read a copy of the Don Dulmage "tuning to win" FBO booklet (I wouldn't buy it) & he says alot of filters are junk. Russell or other name brand would be my choice (& the right one of theirs).

With the sintered brass filters I wouldn't be too worried about 10 microns for the in-line filter.
Put an in-line throw away or reusuable filter in a stock location. The factory used a couple different locations depending on year and model.
Important is to locate the filter so the outlet (carb side) is higher than the inlet (fuel pump side). This prevents vapor bubbles from building up.

As far as the reusuable ones go.
Aluminum billet is nice looking but aluminum transfers heat and the mass will hold it. Shield them and place in aspot they will stay cooler - ie factory. Glass ones are cool, but there was talk that the filters inside weren't compatible with the latest fuels sold at the pump. I'd like to think Puralator etc has addressed that but who knows - I suppose you could write them.

Excellent info. What filter would you recommend?

I run stock fuel filters and they work just fine if all else is new/clean and per O.E. design. They work on my stone stock stuff as well as my 530hp stroker small block, no problems at all. The custom stuff is where I see the most problems with including leaks and fires!

A second filter between the hard line and the fuel pump isn't a bad idea if you plumb it cleanly. Also, if you have a big HP engine you can order the stock style fuel lines in 3/8" dia. instead of stock 5/16" if you need more volume (most cars don't). .02

A Napa Gold Fuel Filter with 5/16 inlet & outlet would be a good chose.

No glass or plastic filters would be my recommendation..

I ran two filters right after my resto was done.. I removed the " tank to fuel pump" filter later on and now just have the stock metal filter behind the alternator...

If the OP is against plastic filters then I will also suggest a Wix #33012 metal filter. Cost is around $5 buck. But I've run Napa's gold plastic fuel filter for years without issues. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.

Is this a Holley with two inlets? If so, the stock line like Scott shows won't quite work. You'll have to make one up so there is enough room for the filter before the dual feed line.

I've been running filters that can be opened because I had some issues to figure out. Its still there because I haven't got 'round tuit. But any of the filters mentioned above should be fine IF you are running 5/16" line. If its a Holley with dual inlet, many of them have a 3/8" inlet barb. In which case you'll want a 3/8 line from the pump to filter and a filter with 3/8 in /out to minimize the need to cram in reducers.
