Wifes durango is throwing codes P0440 and p0441 up. Check gas cap light is on. We did replace that but still throws it up. Kasey P told me is was a filter. He is on vacation now with family so do not want to message him. So anyone know what I need to do? How easy is the fix based on those codes? 2013 durango with 3.6L in it. about 60K on it. No rough idle or drivability. Just has check engine light on an check gas cap on constantly. Have unhooked battery to try and erase it but it comes back when the gas tank gets around 1/4 left. Noticed the mileage has gone down some lately here. When we took it to Philly we got 24-26 MPG with it. 6 people and luggage so I was happy with that, Now that we are back its getting around 17 in city.

Google is your friend on codes . . .check it out . . . looks like it is an evap system issue - some sort of vacuum leak . . . only way to erase codes is with OBD II code reader - can get them at auto parts stores. This will also allow you to shut off the Check engine light . . . .

Autozone will read your code and sell you a gas cap. Unfortunately, it will probably do the same thing. Check for cracks and rot in the lines going to the Evap cannister. Also the lines to the pump that pressurizes the system for the Evap test. First generation Durangos had this problem primarily.

Are you tightening the cap until it clicks?

You can read codes on newer Mopars by turning the key off and on 3 times, leaving it on the third time. They will show on the EVIC display.
