How would you get this off without dropping the oil pan? (big block in 65 B body)...

Or do you have to drop the pan?

Ideas....

How much broke off? are we talking about the bottom 5 or 6 inches, or did the pull handle come off of the stick?

if there's a long section that broke off, you could pull the dip stick tube out of the block, leaving just the stick itself sticking out of the hole in the block, but if it's just the bottom couple of inches, then I'm afraid you'd have no choice but to drop the pan, at least enough to get a magnet in there to try and fish it out.

If it's still in the block, a slide hammer and something to hook the bottom of the tube like a bolt with the head cut down to fit in the tube. Just don't lose the bolt....

Find a wood screw that will bite into the tube and pull it out.

I used a screw extractor.

Beat me to it Jim. Years ago I had this happen on my 351W in my Cyclone. I think all we did was use the appropriate size EZ-out screw extractor to fit the tube and started working it out that way. It was pretty easy.

I did the same thing on my 318. Mounted an ez-out in a drill and it came right out.
