I would pull the rocker shafts & with a 1&1/4" socket/breaker bar, hand turn the crank CW (take plugs out first) till the rotor is on the #8 cap terminal then pull the dist & intergear & spin the pump CCW with a 5/16" hex rod chucked in a drill & see if one bank has oil up top (I forget which bank) squirts oil then stop & turn the crank 3/4 turn CW till the dampener timing slit is on TDC & preoil the other bank. be sure to cover the pedestal 2nd from the rear on each side with a styrofoam cup so you dont get a facefull of oil, which the satisfaction of knowing that the eng ain't gotta come apart might not make up for the mess (& embarassment if your friends are nearby). Holler how it turns out.
