Apparently makes no difference which is inlet/outlet since they aren't marked as such ? Got a cooler from a friend and am installing today, bypassing radiator.

They aren't directional if that's what you are asking. If you mount it horizatally you want the pressure line at the top and return at the bottom.

I believe it's the front line.

why would it need to be on the top and return on the bottom?

I thought you would fill it from bottom to top of cooler when horz

thats the way I took the stock one I pulled from an 87 dippy police car off

I put it back the same way on my truck, seems to work fine so far

wouldnt the tranny pump and cooler stay some what full with it feeding from bottom to top and not leak down?

man I dont want to change them back around,I just got it done

We always put the in line on the bottom of the cooler so it would purge the air from the cooler better. We also never bypassed the rad cooler because it helped heat up the fluid when cold. This is on a bracket car, 72 Dart

It will probably work either way though.

it will push all the air out either way and I agree I prefer to run them in series with the rad.

I bypassed based on alot of research and the fact that I'm in Florida and too of cold tranny fluid's rarely an issue so don't need radiator to bring up to temp.

I run a transmission shop in central fl and the couple test i have done showed unless you have a HUGE external cooler the trans will run cooler with the rad in series with an external compared to an external alone results will very depending on a lot of things like cooler size stock or stall converter how much air flow ect.

Top to bottom uses less pressure to move the fluid through the cooler. I just figure it works better that way.
