I am a bit confused. My Cuda AAR does have the standard tach with a 120 mph speedo. When I look into the specs of the AAR it shows a top speed of 137 mph. Could it be that the AAR used the speedo from the rallye instruments which shows 150mph?

The 120 was standard in all BS23/BS27 Cudas. The rally gauges with 150 was optional. You ever see a road test with the bicycle wheel attached to the car? That is what they use for their information not the speedometer.

Problem #1: The 120 mph speedo did not have a tachometer option with it. Have a photo?

The std. cluster was, well, standard in all Cuda & The Rallye Cluster was optional.

It is certainly possible to peg a 120mph speedo & exceed that MPH, the RPM & rear gears would determine the top speed along with other factors.

I'll tell you right now, with 3:55 gears there is NO WAY an AAR will do 137. Maybe 125 tops. Might be able to do 137 with 3:23 gears. Trust me, I know what the top end is on a 1970 340 Cuda with 3:55's!

If the car came with a tach doesn't it have the rally cluster? Which would be a 150 mph speedo?

There was a tach option for the standard cluster. Its not very common but I have seen them.

Im sorry, it was a clock I was thinking of.
That being said, classic industries makes a tach that will fill the empty hole where the clock would go.

Now that's pretty cool! Never seen one of those before.

sorry guys, i mixed some names. In Germany we use the word tach(o) for a speedo. I do have a std. cluster, with no tach. However, the technical authority here will not let my Cuda get street legal until i have this issue fixed (typically German behaviour). Since i have to adapt mph to kmh just with tape stripes for 30, 50 and 100 kmh, my idea is to get a 39 teeth speedo pinion and remove the existing with this. I have 3.55 gears and 245/60 15 rear tires.

Alles gut.

Just stripe your speedo at 19, 31 and 62.5 MPH and you're done.

The term Typical German Behavior is too funny - those guys are wound too tight

that would be too easy. Unfortunately the pre owner already switched the speedo pinion. I have no idea why. Means when I drive 120 km/h the speedo shows 120mph. When I understand the pinion tables and tire calculators correctly, I have to use a 39 teeth pinion to cover the complete mph range with my 120 mph instrument.
