Has anyone tried spraying the Rustoleum yet? Particularly the tintable base ("high gloss") stuff? If so, has anyone had success or problems, and what were they? Considering spraying it, but want to test the waters first...

Just thought you guys would be interested in this. On the TV show Trucks! on SpikeTV, they are applying primer to one of their projects, with a roller. They are saying "applying it in a way you never thought about before". Figured I'd chime in.

i'm probably going to do 5 coats total, my question back to the splotchyness. When I wetsand the car, does will the splotchyness go away? I just want to get rid of that splotchyness and polish the paint. The car looks 100% better besides the splotchyness and I just want to finish the car now.

Nick, I dont know if you saw it but I replied to your original question above (the 2nd post after your question).
I didn't see the show "trucks" but the roll on primer was discussed a few months ago on this very thread (dont ask me to try and find it  ). there was a link to an auto body industry website describing the application process.

I think wetsanding/polishing that area could make it shine, so you may want to try that first. I assume you were done with your coats? Then go head and try your final wetsanding with 2000 or so and see if you can get everything to look the same, then go ahead and polish it.
On my little test areas I did a couple months back, after the final wetsand (which I did with 1500), the surface was kind of glossy at that point. If there's existing areas of splotchyness, which means less paint got there on that layer, I think you'll end up going through that area to the layer underneath, while the glossy areas this wont be necessary and you'll be polishing a different layer for those areas. I'm not sure if it will matter in terms of how it looks..
let us know, because i am finding those here and there on my car, but I really am trying to avoid them by rolling over areas a few more times to try to get the paint to lay evenly..

if you look in one of the pics you can see what i'm using; just a roller and a foam brush.

Seems like it should work. You could probably polish by hand but it would take a while. I had a 10" Ryobi but I took it back because it was too big for polishing out my rocker panels and spoiler.. I finally got the 6" yesterday and used it last night.. man, polishing really does bring out the shine. Even with all the polish residue on my test piece I can see reflections through it. I suppose I should clean it up a bit. I am going to test another polish today. It is like 5 times the cost of the Turtle Wax product  -Serp

I have been fixing that goofy dent and gas lid problem. I got the gas lid on thursday and just started painting. While I was fixing the dent I figured I should just fix the rest annoyances... so I fixed a rough area on the front spoiler and rear bumper and patched the two holes in the nose where the emblem goes. I am not sure what those were for but when I put the new emblem I could see part of the hole..
Anyway, what is the difference between the terry bonnet and the wool one? I wasnt sure which one to use when I polished so I used the terry bonnet and it seems to be working good. Is the wool one for metals or something?
Oh and started painting my black metal trim with gloss black.. very nice paint it comes out very smooth and shiny

I'm painting my car high gloss black. The areas that i wet sanded came out nice and smooth, but they turned very light grey. I used 800 grit for wetsanding if that matters.
I have tried two different wax nu2000, turtle wax with color guard and they didnt work. I just went to the store and got some of the recommended turtle wax and some turtle wax polishing compound. I'm currently trying those two and I will post the results. I dont understand why I cant get that gloss black look back after wetsanding.
I hope I can get the shine back.

Did you do a final sand with 2000gt? If your surface is looking grey it is probably because of scratches in the surface. I think 800gt is too coarse. Using an electric polisher works great. However, even with the Turtle Wax POLISHING COMPOUND it takes time. Once you finish with the polishing compound you should come to a nice smooth surface.. then you could follow up with a wax. I am not sure if the paint is the problem because others have been successful.

Yar my rear bumper is one big flexable, thin shell. The paint seems to adhere with no signs of difficulty.
