Putting together a 904 and noticed this crack on the inside. You can feel the a bump where the crack is. The outside of the case doesn't have any marks but you can feel a low spot.
Is the case junk?

if this is on the outside of the bellface where it took a hit I would be inclined to say you're good.

I would at least drill a small hole at the end of each crack to prevent it from cracking further. Probably would not cost much to have those welded just for peace of mind.

What concerns me is the bump where the crack is. It seems like someone dented the outside of the case. It is hard to tell in the picture. I have a spare 904 and I will use that case.
Just odd there are no marks on the outside of the case.

Based on your description and the fact that it is in a high stress area IE: O/R clutch, I'd use the other case.

Why worry about it later ?? twocents shruggy popcorn

Weld it up and keep for a spare. Whole lot of top fuel blocks are welded. I think they see more stress than that case.

Pretty sure the top fuel guys don't just cross their fingers and hope the weld is good. Bet they NDT it.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Looks like something hit on the parting line. My eyes are getting old so I didn't see it without the camera ...need glasses. The trans is going in a 2200lb drag car.

If, the welder is good the welded piece is stronger. Just because somethings broke don't mean it's throw away.
