First off who makes the best pan gasket for a 440 to prevent leaking, and secondly what is the proper procedure for using said gasket(s) with a windage tray? Do you have to use two gaskets with the windage tray? Thanks for the input!

Brand of gaskets to use may be a matter of personal preference. I like Fel-Pro. The pan gasket on my truck has been there ten years, no leaks. With the windage tray use two gaskets.

The only one I would avoid is the milodon crushproof tearproof gasket, as mine ripped in half as I was removing it from the package.

I am using 2 cork gaskets with a windage tray and so far no leaks.

Moparrush...........You will need 2 pan gaskets for use with a windage tray. It is also a good idea to attach the gaskets to the windage tray only and I would use the good 'ol brown gasket gasket shellac (sparingly) from Permatex no other sealers are required. I agree with Moparlifer with the Superformance Products #2585 pan gasket. It's stick resistant coated and can be reused, packaged flat so it won't take a week or so to get the kinks out of the Fel-Pro and simply it's a better material.

I'd give Superformance a call 1-866-925-7855 http://www.superformanceproducts.com or they are available from Chenoweth Speed & Machine 309-266-8084.

Priced rite and good stuff!!!

Thanks for the info guys. I had done my breakin on the motor, and chased leaks on my MP valve covers until I discovered that the MP valve covers are not exactly right when using stock 440 valve cover gaskets. There is a pinch point right above the outward mounting bolt holes, but with a little trimming of the gaskets and voila problem solved, so I thought. I then did the first oil change and went to Royal purple 10w40, and started seeing a small puddle under the car again, not to mention what was on the undercarriage. After crawling around it appears that my cork gaskets aren't cutting it. I've read elsewhere that using synthetics can lead to leaks using certain types of gasket materials, so I figured I would post here to get some feedback. So thanks for the help, but if anyone else has 2 cents to throw in please do. Thanks again.
