Has anyone ever heard of a cam that uses the part number 950005. This number is on back of this cam and is unfamiliar to me. I am subcontracting a resto of a car set up for drag racing back to street use. This car was built many years ago and has changed owners many times and no one seems to know its history. It had 4.89 gears and a converter with the number 17007X in it. The owner want to keep the car performance minded but street driveable and I want to find info on the parts to see if I can reuse them. The gears are not being reused but if I can use the cam and converter still it would save money. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Don't recognize it myself. But sometime those numbers can just be core numbers for multible grinds. You can measure it with calipers to get a idea of its size. Or you can degree it in the block and know exactly what you have, both duration and lift. Calipers will only give you approx. lift. But even that is telltale. If its a old .500 lift cam, duration would be around 245/250 @ .050 most likely.

What are you looking for in the car "for street use"? That can be a big spectrum.

Unless you are looking for radical street, the fact that it was a drag only car, and it had 4.89's in it suggests that the cam and converter are likely not real street friendly.

I am already aware of this. I still would like to know what I am working with here with this cam so I can see if it will work in a different combo of gears and converters to make it more streetable. The man wants it to be a daily driver but wants to keep some of the performance there. If I can reuse the cam or converter to accomplish that it would be great and less costly. The gears are definitely being changed. If not then I can at least sell them with the info and turn the money over to parts that will accomplish the owners goal.

Well, like I said. Time to break out the degree wheel or calipers. Depending on how exactly you want to know what your working with here with that cam. Best way to do it for sure. Here if you need help. up
