OK, I've got my pushrods and Hughes Billet hold downs . Now I just need to confirm some clearances. A short time ago a thread was talking about side clearance on the rockers. I now have .025" total between each set of hold downs. Also for hyd roller lifters with a streetcam/motor is .020" to .030" pre-load still good? Thanks for a quick reply as I'm trying to get this done today.

Well, I got the hold downs "adjusted" by way of a belt sander, it took a while but turned out pretty good for my first time doing this. I got the pushrods installed and it looks like I sized them just about perfect. With .025" of preload (which BTW is exactly 1/2 turn on the Comp SS Magnums) I have one (1) thread showing below the rocker arm bottom. The motor should be ready to install the first part of next week and fire up a few days after that!

Sounds like you have it pretty well set up, I usually
give it a little more pre-load than .025 but if that
works for the lifters then thats fine( I usually go
1/2 to 3/4 turn)

Thanks for the input. The lifters didn't list any specs for preload. I can give them another 1/4 turn (3/4 total) which would bring the preload to .035" to .040" . Would this be better, I don't want anymore valve clatter than is necessary.

Try it where you have it set now.... you shouldnt have
any clatter on a hyd

OK, Thanks. Actually when I did the adjustments I went just a bit past 1/2 turn so I'm probably closer to .030 than I am to .025. I'll leave it as is for now.

They are Compcams # cc8921-16. They are the retro-fit hydraulic rollers.

Most pro-magnum lifters I have used call for .002 to .004 lifter preload with the engine warm. If you dont have instructions with your lifters you should call comp-cams and check. If they call for .002 to .004 preload and you have them at .025 to .030 your valves will not close all the way.

Open my attachment and see if the page from the catalog is big enough to read.

OK, I just accessed the comp catalog lifter section. For their Hi-Tech series of hyd lifters they recommend a preload of .030 to .060, for their Race series of hyd lifters they recommend a preload range of .000 to .030. For their retro hyd roller lifters which I have, they don't make a recommendation . I'll check with their tech line tomorrow. Has anyone else actually used these guys yet or have some info on what the preload on these should be?
