Good morning , I have a A66 70 challenger vitamin "c" orange , I want to put a hounds tooth top back on the car , I know that it had one originals because I replaced it 25 plus years ago and could not find one back then , I called legendary a few years back and they never did call me back ... would like to put it back to original
Please advise if you know where a guy might get one or have one made

What is the top code on your fender tag / broadcast sheet?

What alphabet and line would the code be on ? The only V code is for the bumble bee strip I don't have the broadcast sheet handy ... I will see if I can locate it , I have a copy of it somewhere

Fender tag, third line up at left, first code in line.

It may match the code directly under it.

It should say V1x where the little x is the type/color top applied.

Do you have any pictures of the car when the old top was still on it?

Not aware of any houndstooth top for a '70 Challenger.

Vinyl top would be either boar grain or gator grain for a 70 Chall.
Houndstooth is a trunk mat color only

Its a Cougar thing.

You could have a houndstooth top from the "Bumble Bee" collection of Modtops offered by George Barris's installation shop back in the day, plus he had a dealer network in various cities that had installation centers, plus mobile service to new/used auto dealerships, regardless of make, model or mfg


So it's possible this Challenger was driven off the lot, NEW with a houndstooth top...


IIRC not too long ago there were pics of a 70 Cuda Gran Coupe in a thread discussion that had a houndstooth (black/white)vinyl top, (as well as the B/W houndstooth GC interior w red piping) from back in the day...I may have saved those pics

I remember my great uncle had a black 70 Chevelle with a black and white houndstooth vynal top. He bought it brand new like that.

It was used on the Mustang Grande too. I have a green NOS one in my part stash.

In Danville, CA we had a 70 Camaro that had a green and white Houndstooth top.

It wasn't pretty.

My Grandmother had a 69 Rebel SST, white with a black and white houndstooth top, also bought brand new, my Uncle owned an AMC dealership (so everyone in the family had an AMC at some point in time)...she was kind of hip, I remember she had sunglasses with black/white houndstooth pattern on the frames, that she wore when she drove her Rebel, and like most "hotrodders" back in the day, I remember when she bought a set of slightly used slotted chrome mags from a local gent (while at the bar! no less) for it shortly after bringing it home

And what AMC did you have?

I never owned one, although my uncle always was the consummate salesman as most of the family members had an AMC product, but I did enjoy driving a few 69-71 AMX's, Machines, Javelins, Mark Donahue Specials that my cousins owned including a 69 SC Rambler, after 74 AMC performance cars (Javelin AMX being the only thing left) were non existent, as the years rolled by my Uncles dealership took on the Renault line, then the Eagle line, eventually it folded in the late 80's-early 90's

I do wish I had kept all the AMC promo models and dealership displays over the years that I was given, but eventually they were given away or hit the trash

I have to admit to driving an AMC Pacer, what a POS! I cringed being seen in that!

A friend of mine, about 7 years ago, bought his 16 year old daughter a Pacer to drive.

My buddy had this 70 Gran Coupe years ago. It's long been sold but some of the original FC7 remained in places.

There was a houndstooth top/interior gran coupe barracuda at the 1985 mopar nationals...we thought it was odd.
